Title: Devlog update (2012-10-22) Fixing nade bugs and randomness
Post by: 14th_account on October 22, 2012, 07:42:53 am
(http://skoskav.org/etc/soldat/etc/yahtzee.png)

Mellow greetings. I was going to post this devlog sooner, but didn't have elevated rights on my new account. Isn't that always the way?

As for me this week, I fixed a hit detection issue on Desert Eagles and improved the netcode a bit for weapons like Desert Eagles and Spas which has always spread their bullets/pellets in a different random way on each machine. Now every machine will replicate the same randomness, greatly improving hit detection on longer ranges.

FryFry was a good boy. He fixed bug 137 (http://bugs.soldat.pl/view.php?id=137) which resolves some of the "TRRNNNGGGG" noise and strange movements of nades when hitting polygons. He also added the ability to have the scoreboard sort by kills exclusively and not kills + caps. Maybe we'll switch the default behavior if this seems better.

Falcon added some scripting stuff. I have no idea what and frankly I don't give a damn.

So when is the next version is out? The only major blocker left should be the new auto updater. I can't really estimate how much longer it'll take to get that done. Shoozza is diligently working on it whenever he is able to. Maybe give him some encouraging words to give him the extra energy/stress required.

Your report about fixing a bug #186 (http://bugs.soldat.pl/view.php?id=186) looks promising too. Keep going!

Actually I found the image to be a surprisingly accurate way of depicting a gun barrel viewed through the netcode.

Now I hate you (kidding).

When is someone gonna tell us what Falcon's been up to?

Not soon, i can assure you about that.
I've been extremaly busy with real life recently, so there's a good change that you won't even see my efforts in next release as they have to come out all together.
I'll do my best though to prevent that, there's still some time left.

I could get the real 400+ fps that my new PC can provide and not the 30 fps feeling... that's all I want since 2006...
:(

But I will see DrawTextEx and the weapon parameter added to OnPlayerDamage right? I was pretty sure that was set in stone because of the simplicity of them. If not I (and STM1993) have wasted a hell of a lot of time(working on a script), I'm not waiting another year or two to get those functions.

DrawTextEx will be there for sure, not sure about onplayerdamage parameter as it breaks backward compatibility which i decided to preserve.

Might be better if we just had some energy drinks mailed to him. Shoozza, PM me your address and what brand of energy drink you want and I'll try to ship a few to you.

I won't do that just because energy drinks are SOO cheap in Germany :P but it's a wonderful idea hehe

@Espada: It's true. Energy drinks are cheap in Germany. At least it appears that way. We are simply rich enough to effort a good amount.

;)
