Title: soldat.pl official website
Post by: darDar on June 18, 2013, 11:44:23 am
Hey,
I think the official website is pretty outdated.
There should be added better and new screenshots (http://soldat.thd.vg/en/screenshots).
There also might be added some other things to the download section.
The Link (http://soldat.thd.vg/en/page/links) section is totally outdated.
The Gather section has never been used and should be replaced with some plugin which redirects to soldat.gather or something. (quakenet webchat or however)
Leagues are also outdated.

This should be changed in time.  ::) It takes like 5-10 minutes to update that so whoever is in charge of the site right(jrgp?) now do it please.

Feel free to make screenhots ;) so we can include them.
What are the other things you are talking about in the download section?
Which links in the link section are outdated?
Which leagues need to be changed/removed/replaced/added?

Please give us a new list of links/leagues and worthy screenshots. I agree that the gather link should either be removed or go to a page that has a list of current active gather IRC channels. It was a project MM had me create a few years ago and we thought it'd get popular, but even though it was in a working state no one really used it.

And you're right. The site hasn't changed much since ElephantHunter and I redid it from scratch in 2009.

Something like this could be done for the gather section:

Quote
<Info about what gathers are and how to play on them...>

List of currently active gather channels on Quakenet:
#soldat.gather - EU servers, high activity.
#gather.eu - Ranked EU servers, high activity.
#sna.gather - NA servers, high activity.
#soldat.dBa - Ranked NA servers, medium activity. (Seems to be offline atm, not sure if it's coming back?)
#ausgather - Ranked AUS servers, (low or medium activity? Someone from there should be able to fill me in on the activity of this one.).
#lrs - Realistic mode EU servers, medium activity.
#soldat.eat-this! - Scripted TTW mode (NA servers?), low activity.

Those are the gather channels I've visited recently, possibly not including some other gathers that I either don't know about or are too low activity and redundant to be included. Sorted by activity and game mode to the best of my knowledge and attemped unbiasedness.

Links which have changed:

http://soldat.eu.com -> http://soldat.org.pl/ Polish Community
http://sml.u13.net/ Soldat Mapper League - The site might be online but I guess the event itself not.
http://soldat-tr.com -> http://soldatarena.com ( I think soldat-tr.com is also still active. The turkish community has just split in some way)

Links you should add:
http://soldatladder.net !!!
http://soldatx.com - Brazil community
http://sctfl.net -It´s already on Leagues though

Leagues:

"TNL - The Next League" should be deleted

...

OH I forgot to mention,...
replace the current Chat (http://selfkill.com/www.soldat.pl/chat-en.html) with something like this: http://webchat.quakenet.org/
channels might be #soldat, #soldatladder, #soldat.devs, #soldat.match

Quote
Soldat-Chat @ #selfkill & #esl.soldat (QuakeNet.org)

@jrgp: I´ve sent you this mail to test if the mail accounts are still working lol.

@Fryer: There´s not much more. Just #soldatarena (turkish gather - activity: medium) #NAgather (north american gather - activity:low)

@Shoozza: I thought about adding some other tools in the download area. For example Baka Admin , ARSSE, ... I don´t know much about the latest tools but there are some which are worth to be added.

Polish version's still missing some diacritics, Gamespot quote is cropped and "Download now" button is missing version number and file size. See attachment.

It could be nice if you somehow add knife only community forum website as well:

http://kosoldat.forumer.com (http://kosoldat.forumer.com)

Would be nice if you'd finally implement any of the suggestions proposed or admit you're not giving a flying fuck 'bout it and let somebody else do it.

Here's the link to the Australian Soldat community forums:
http://soldataus.com/forum/

It's not much, but it's the designated go-to place for Aussies.

Lithuanian Soldat Community - http://www.soldat.lt/ - link redirects to real Lithuanian soldier memorial page, seems needs to be removed.

Hello,
If you find some time please remove selfkill.com from the links site.

Also,
Are there any plans for redesigning or updating certain stuff? I've heard of that.

Oh,
By the way:
The "Chat" link doesn't make much sense as it is right now. You get redirected to webchat.quakenet.org, which is good, but there should be a default channel.

I might create some new 'fancy' screenshots or something. There is a lot of stuff in the media are which has nothing lost there. (app screenshots, comics etc..)

We're currently redoing the engine behind the site to make management of the site easier for shoozzy. I'll take off selfkill. Did r0adkill die or become roadkill or something or did he actually say why the site was shutdown?

New screenshots would be nice. Feel free to attach them to this thread.

The website, unfortunately, is quite obsolete... I think it's not very good for the game to not to have nearly any sort of news on it's front page.
Most people do not directly hop to the forums. So the last thing they'll see is six months old. ;3

Dead websites on the 'Links' section: Selfkill, Polish Soldat Community, French Soldat Community.
As well as 'Leagues' section is undated: ASCTFL, GameArena, SIC and SWC which are nested under SCTFL anyway.

Also the servers-list's players filter doesn't seem to work quite right (http://i.imgur.com/2RNpwFC.png).

I don't know. I have stopped using selfkill.com long time ago, but I didn't see any statement about the shutdown.
I have some problems with my anti aliasing and my textures get always biased when I move, so I can't really create well looking images right now  :|

By the way:

It's a bit bad to have the popular downloads thing. It doesnt make any sense since all the downloads are either related to SOLDAT or Soldat Server.
People might download old game versions.

http://realistic-soldat.net/ seems to redirect to something error like. -> http://realistic-soldat.net is the new default domain
http://soldat.org.pl/ is dead now
http://www.soldat2d.fr/ seems to be dead too, it redirects to an empty wordpress theme.
http://www.soldat.lt/ ehm what ?  ???

Also they should be sorted in a different way like:

1-sctfl.net (Which is not just a league, it's also a community but mostly for organizing events )
2-realistic-soldat / ...
3-....
4-map / mod sites
5-country communites
6-sub mode sites

like that

Selfkill.com basically has died because noone really visited it anymore. The main page has been abandoned a long time ago already. There were some efforts to convert/replace the page with a blog and post some news and updates about Soldat's latest stuff from time to time but like always people got interested and there was all this "hey, lets do this"-enthusiasm and after some weeks noone really cared anymore. So the forum was the only place which was still "alive" for some time. But people didn't actually talk about Soldat stuff but mostly community stuff. Old people from old Soldat clan times telling each other was has happend in their lifes for the last few years. All nostalgia and stuff. Only a hand-full of people visited the forum regularly and eventually there was less and less activity.
Well... and the last time I wanted to check out the forum it was down already. Maybe there's still an IRC chan with some folks hanging around.

And no, r0adkill's not (https://www.xing.com/profile/Henning_Beese) dead (https://www.linkedin.com/in/henningbeese). Just busy with reallife I guess.

I was on the team but the whole thing was confusing and nobody was really in charge and other people worked on the same thing which made me wonder if what I did would even make it - i guess it went similar for the other people..

http://soldat.thd.vg/en/downloads/

Why does it say:

Code: [Select]
Soldat Dedicated Server 1.6.6 (v2.7.6) 7.04MB
Soldat Dedicated Server 1.6.6 (v2.7.6)
at Official:

Are those Editors even up to date? Can we add some other fancy tools there? ARSSE / BAKA Admin / ...

Can we remove:

Code: [Select]
Popular Downloads
Soldat 1.5 Release 13.9 MB
Full Soldat version 1.5
Soldat 1.5 Patch 6.19 MB
Patches 1.4.2 to 1.5
[...]

It's a pretty dumb thing and ppl. might accidently download the wrong version.

The login part on top is useless as well.

Replace the Chat link with - > http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=INSERT_THE_CHANNEL_NAME_HERE&uio=d4

+ the things mentioned in a few other posts.

Soldat Polyworks 1.1 MB
Soldat map making tool created by Anna

not sure if I'm right but I assume it's the version by Anna and not the updated one by Fryer. Could you replace it with this one http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=35195.0.

Also, could you change the link title of Soldat Ladder to #soldatladder and add a description: "rent soldat servers to play on for free" or something similiar
Coud you also add: #Gather.EU http://geu.furai.pl description: "IRC Gather supporting all gamemodes with servers in europe, na & aus" or something similiar

Can you adjust the Font Size at the FAQ tab to look similiar to the home / news tab? It looks wrong.
