Title: Custom Map Folder + Map Vote List
Post by: Home on February 19, 2016, 10:09:26 am
Hey,

Please make an extra folder for custom maps, so the normal folder isn't crammed. It is also very annoying to use the Vote Map function because you can only see one map at a time. A list would be better here.

The amount of time I've wasted trying to find a specific map using the vote map feature!

To the extent that I end up just getting fed up and exit server to look through the map lists in game setup tab.

Generally I would use /votemap Map_Name anyway but it's so annoying trying to find a forgotten map in game. So I'd welcome a better voting feature.

The current idea is to separate user files from installation files (use %appdata% or soldat/config folder).
All changes would go into this folder while updates would only patch the soldat folder.

The vote map feature is difficult to use with a lot of maps, one workaround is the /votemap command but that requires you to know the map name as mentioned.
I'm open for mockups for the vote map feature.

This would be nice, it is already used in other games and I think it works perfectly fine.

An easy list function like this would even do the trick:

What I'm interested in is how it handles say 256 map entries.

I'd make it a box with a max of N entries with a fuzzy search similar to what I did here http://urraka.github.io/soldat-map/ (see text box at top-left)

That would help if you know part of the name.
We might want some solution for the other case.

I like the filter and minimap idea above, combine that with a fuzzy search and it's good to go.

Yea, when working with filters as shown above and a minimap when you hold your mouse on a map, that would be nice.

256 map entries are no problem when working with filters, also you could the map box showing 30 entries maybe. With 300 ctf maps for example you would have 10 sites of the list you would have to click through. Make the sides scrollable with mouse wheel and together with minimap preview and filter feature it would be very fast and easy to use.

Also add a filter like

Would it be impossible to utilize the data that OS's read as "last modified" files to show maps that were most recently installed? This is probably the most common order I can see myself wanting them listed in. A minimap preview would be ace...

Honestly, a scrollable A-Z list would be better than what we currently have. Filters would just be a huge plus.

For me as well.

Regarding handling 256 maps. What about players who got way more than that? (For example I've got 5474 maps in my maps folder.)

Sometime somewhere I've posted about displaying CTF maps when you're playing CTF and hiding the other maps without the ctf_ prefix...

3193 of those maps in my folder have the ctf_ prefix.

Why do you have all the TMS/SoldatForums CTF maps in your Soldat maps folder?
Filtering by gamemode you have 2k less maps :P It's a good start.

Custom map folder, map search, map overview... I'd love that.
Well, all the climb maps shall change prefix to kz then. I think that's the proposed traditional prefix :D. But got no idea if to rename maps with mapper name as a prefix or no prefix at all. That's just my point of view and it shall be considered if this idea ever gets realised, even if climb is unofficial and ununited mode... but the decision how to rename the maps would be probably up to climb server owners anyway. I hope there aren't any other modes using bs random mapnaming, well at least I am sure no other mode got thousands of maps. :P
