Title: Devlog update (2017-12-10) Steam release moved to January, flood fixes
Post by: Shoozza on December 09, 2017, 06:38:54 pm
Oh well, this is long overdue..

Here's a quick update:

- Fixed 100% cpu bug in soldatserver on flood (beta versions are in use by several server admins, official build next sunday)
- Fixed inttostr issue in soldatserver
and other issues thanks to falcon, helloer, jrgp for the server logs and information on what they think might be happening.

- Talked with MM about moving release date for steam after the steam winter sale people requested (relase will be in January)
- evhO agreed to work on a trailer for steam, but he also thinks we should do a forum competition
- MM will post about trailer competition soon
- We need good screenshots for Steam you can help out L[one]R here if you want

- Implemented team mute (/mute alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, spec, zero) but will probably not add it to the next release as it isn't tested and results in code duplication which i'd like to avoid (let me know if you think this is a good idea or not)

- Some admins use unofficial test versions in production. These versions include scriptcore improvements by falcon (included in 1.8). I will look into the changes falcon made and if possible add them to the 1.7.2 release (instead of waiting for 1.8.0)

As for the weekly updates, im sorry that it took so long for an update. I wont go into details as to why but I can say drama, trolling and toxicity isn't exactly helping.

I'll take a break from the discord chat for now and will see if things are better in a week.

Scarface09 comes back out of retirement. Must have brought shoozza back with him.

- Implemented team mute (/mute alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, spec, zero)
Is this a final syntax for this command? There will be a collision if there is a player on map with nickname alpha for example.

/mutegroup <alpha/bravo/charlie/delta/spec>
and /unmutegroup <alpha/bravo/charlie/delta/spec> makes more sense to me.

- Talked with MM about moving release date for steam after the steam winter sale people requested (relase will be in January)
This is wise.

Nice to have a devlog in the end.

The command is not final and atm it wont be in 1.7.2
we already have
/mute all
which toggles mute
one alternative would be something similar to gmute: /tmute 0,1,2,3,4,5 (numbers are teamids)

But as i said it isn't planned for 1.7.2

I'm in!

PS: Someone should rework the manual.

@duz what should be improved with the rework in the manual?

Actually, it has helped, you've written a devlog which we had been waiting for.

@duz what should be improved with the rework in the manual?
Visual, the entire arrangement etc.
I'm gonna edit the manual and post a suggestion.

Built-in manual for soldat would be nice. Also update all available commands (I couldn't find /tempban, /gmute (why not /pmute?), SHUTDOWN, and probably some more), also https://static.soldat.pl/pl/manual/manual-en.html#KLAWISZE "[F3] - statistics (FPS, ping, network bandwith) / [ALT + F3] - hide player names " hide player names? and why google searches this site first rather than https://wiki.soldat.pl/index.php/Soldat

PS banning in Soldat is seriously f***** up, commands are messy and even manually adding/deleting bans from files doesnt work

Quote
- Implemented team mute
pls spend time on hiding team chat to enemies as it still appears "on map"

I suggest using Markdown.

Yet, manual might be that outdated because we have Soldat wiki (among others at least). I believe having updated wiki is more important It is also more convenient for use.

I suggest we have a competition for the trailer? I am worried because evhO goes low on ctf_Guardian so obviously does not know anything about Soldat.

Great to see progress! Keep it up!

The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.
DarDar you are spoiling, the game more and more

Muting a team is not needed for Steam release. I have never needed it.

I wonder who comes up with the idea to add such useless redundant things to soldat... and why..

I needed it last time I played. A guy was spamming up the chat with racist stuff all the time. If that had happened to a new player from steam he would be wondering where the report button is

You needed a team mute to ban one player? As you mentioned - even the report button would be more useful, than this useless feature u can add to your server using simple scripts :x

they like to waste effort 'fixing' nothing, like always
instead of fixing the whole interface system :D

This is a good idea - reporting players from in game. However, we shouldn't be focused on removing players from the game when we are so low on numbers already. If anything we should be targeting hackers first and foremost.

Also, please add something to help beginners.. I have already seen a recent influx of new players in the past few months on the oneshots servers. Two things always happen:

1. They are way outclassed... half the server are vets who have been playing for years and new players can barely get a few kills in. Imagine how disheartening it must be to not even get a KD of 1 every single game.

2. They are then teased and harassed to the max by their own team. This is to be expected but certainly doesn't help these players from returning again.

This could be very easily fixed with in-game training which will atleast encourage these players. Or someone could take the lead and create a server SOLELY for noobs. Admins of this server would kick/ban vets or any player that is obviously leagues ahead and encourage these new players.

A good idea, however, there will always be a guy who has been playing for some time entering this server and killing all the noobs, the solution would be a way of knowing how long the player who entered already plays this game and move to the spectators.
I agree to create a tutorial in the first 3-5 times that the player enters, a tutorial that is not boring (5 minutes in length) and show the good things in the game

Did I mention the year tho? ;)
Fun aside: I'd like to release asap. I know everyone is waiting but sadly I'm having a hard time to free up quality free time for working on soldat. So the development pace is disappointing.
There are other things besides development that need to be done and I hope MM finds the time to post about the trailer competition he wanted to do some time ago.

Should be posted ASAP as if we really want a decent trailer than video editors should have some time to create it.
