Title: Gostek Viewer v1.0.0.1 with Source Code
Post by: Anna on June 12, 2006, 11:00:15 am
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/Anna_Z/gostekviewer04.png)

Download (http://individual.utoronto.ca/caek/Gostek_Viewer.zip)

Extract it to your Soldat folder. If you get errors when you run it and the gostek doesn't show, try 'set dir' in the menu that pops up when you click the arrow.

In this version I tweaked the animation some more, but it still isn't perfect. I also added chains and dreadlocks.

Thanks to CarlHamilton/Coq Rouge for letting me steal his idea way back in December.

edit:

- fixed Mr. T hair not showing when headgear was on
- fixed ramie
- some other small changes

I've released the source code as well (Visual Basic 6). Feel free to use it for whatever you want, just remember to give me some credit ;)

I believe the lower half of the stomach is the color of the pants, fix that.

Other than that, nice :D If only it had a save function (hint).
Title: Re: Gostek Viewer v1.0
Post by: Spyder on June 12, 2006, 10:01:43 pm
There is a save function. Simply click the down arrow on the top left, and press Save ini.

But one thing should be fixed tho is making it able to open any .ini, because people who are registered can't open and edit their .ini in the 'Profile' folder.

Sweet, this program will help in my project a lot. Now all I need is time.

The download link is not working for me, it's a shame because it looks great!

Yeah, transparency would be good too!  If you need a formula or something then PM me and maybe we could exchange a couple of ideas.

Why girls kick our asses in programing?

from where did you take this? ;p

1. there's only One coding girl here
2. did soldat was created by girl?

or maybe i just should say: no comment!

2. did soldat was created by girl?

Maybe if it was it wouldn't be so buggy xD

This file is now included with the download, if it still doesn't work try registering it (instructions are in the PolyWorks FAQ).

@edak and DarkNoddy: skin transparency is next to 'custom', click the number to edit it.

Found some bug, so girls aren't perfect too. ;] With the headgear the hair is set to normal. Even when I pick Mr. T. Style there's no beard with the headgear on.

^That's what happens in real soldat too. I've always wanted the dreads to stick out of the helmet / hat, but sadly, it ain't gonna happen :\

It loads whatever is in the gostek-gfx in your main soldat directory.  But it doesn't load the one in mods folder unless you put it in the same folder.

ds dude: You click on the bubbles on the side and select what you want.  You can also change your skin colour as well, and then you can save your new .ini by clicking the little down arrow at the top left corner.

Okay, this program is great! I registered the ocx and ran it because I was curious. I love the animations, though there should be a little more space for ones like the jump one (he jumps out of screen).  What language did you use?

In that case, where did you get the exact positions and rotations of the pieces and/or how did you do the animations?

I been waiting for this for awhile now, hope to see it updated like polyworks thx anna.
Title: Re: Gostek Viewer v1.0
Post by: Anna on June 14, 2006, 10:49:34 am
@edak: I get the positions directly from the poa file. The rotations for the sprites are calculated by finding the angle between two of the points, I figured out which points correspond to which sprites by using a POA editor (http://soldatmods.edgegaming.com/integramod/dload.php?action=file&file_id=35). I determined the rotation centers for the sprites myself through trial and error (which is why they are not accurate).

I can't understand what you are trying to say Mechanic.  I am guessing you couldn't get the gostek image to show up, make sure you installed Gostek Viewer in your Soldat directory.

As far as I know, she used VB.

IMO, VB is sort of the m79 of programming languages.  People new to programming use it right away, and it's really easy to get good results with it.  I dunno, I just don't like it because the IDE does everything for you.  Oh well, I guess I can't complain too much because the program DOES look good ;).

Great program, works like magic!

But if I may suggest a few things:

- An option to load in a mod gostek
- Selecting between Team1 and Team2 gosteks
- The possibility to make the player face left instead

Add those things, and this is a killer modding app. :)

Anna, any chance of a source code release for us coders? Nice app BTW - keep up the good work. I'm sure there are plenty of skilled coders who'd be willing to contribute (me being one of them) so if you'd be willing to release the source, it'd be great and then we can all make this great app even greater! :)

Digi.

I don't have much desire to continue working on this, so that's definitely a possibility :) I'd have to clean up the code and put some documentation first though.

These errors relate to it not finding the animations directory. Dismiss the errors and from the main menu you can tell it where your Soldat animations are kept - default: C:/soldat/animations/

Digi.

Those errors happened 2 me, too; it's because you have 2 put the folder "Gostek Viewer" and the "ASEQuery_soldat.dll" in your soldat direvtory (ex: C:\soldat).

We should hope someday something similar to this:

will be build in custom Soldat. Gostek preview should be avalible in Game (near settings section) without need of any external (stand-alone) programs.

Hi, I've have spoken to Naliz about a problem I am having (Gostek doesn't save) but he doesn't use GV, I find it annoying to have to open soldat to check if it looks ok, so thats why I downloaded GV. I have GV in the correct directory so yeah. Now I am getting errors when I follow these steps

Quote
Open -> Set Dir to C:\Soldat -> Make Gostek Fancy -> Save ini -> Open Soldat

When I Open soldat the GV gives
me # error messages, I have no clue what these are or how to fix them.

Error 1
(http://666kb.com/i/b4u6h83vvjc92ll34.bmp)
That is the First Error box that appears, I don't understand what the problem is.

Error 2
(http://666kb.com/i/b4u6jl22n3ajp7w8w.bmp)
Second on appears after I click OK on the first error.

Error 3
(http://666kb.com/i/b4u6l9ohb4j9zdxxc.bmp)
This is the last error message.
But when I click OK I notice that my Gostek in the little window, has disappeared so I follow the step on the first post about setting the directory, and so I do. Which eventually makes this situation into a circle of the same problem.

If somebody could help me, It would be much appreciated.
