Title: S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR Gives An Advantage In Soldat Gameplay?
Post by: 001 Amped on September 16, 2006, 08:38:32 pm
For all you people with S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR please dont smite me for this lol.

- I used to have S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR and it cuts scenery in half, like bushes and stuff, but i thought maybe it gives them an advantage? because you can see people hiding in bushes because the bush isnt actually there, just the top half is.... Feedback please?

No, cause you can just edit your own sceneries.

My old S3 card did not allow any alpha blending, which caused me to be able to see all predators just as clearly as if they hadn't been in predator mode. But to equal out this, all alpha transparent sceneries where at 100% so I could barely see anything.

Anyone can cheat this way by editing their own sceneries.

Yep, and that stinks. Too bad the game can't detect at least default scenery file sizes and choose whether or not to load the map based on that.

A major staple of this game is it's modibility... There should be no check for your files against a so-called default... Many mods mod textures and sceneries.

Default maps should be standard across the board. Modded maps would be just that -- modded maps. A player shouldn't be able to load transparent bushes and whatnot on a default map to give himself an advantage.

Even if you did that, the player would then edit his weapon gfx so he can see the player that is hiding in the bush.

There is a number of ways to do this..

Sure, but how is that enforced? What's stopping anyone for doing this? I've honestly never noticed that this is a problem ever.

Weapon graphics could be checked, too. :) Didn't Soldat used to use a file size detection thing to avoid people doing stuff like that? I seem to recall reading that.

Michal should implement some kind of CRC32 check on the files to see if the person is using the original ones or not.
And make that a Server Option you can turn on/off.
At least this way you can force players to use the default stuff on tournaments and scrim matches.

I don't think it's an unfair advantage, due to what amity just said. If you want to you can make all sceneries transparrent or even add long pink lines to all the guns in order for the to show whereever the player is hiding. Cutting lines in the gosteks isn't really a problem.

Plus, you press the trigger almost instantly when seeing an enemy, and if you miss he would've seen you anyway, so your cover is allready blown. You just gotta make sure you hit him on that first barret shot ;)
