Title: Skill.
Post by: AerialAssault on June 14, 2006, 09:32:39 am
I was playing a game of soldat last night, whenone thing that particularly aggrivates me occured. Someone said that the weapon I was using was a "noob gun". Why was it a "noob gun" you might ask? Well, the accuser told me "because it doesnt take any skill". I thought to myself, "surely it must, if I am not capable of winning every single firefight then it must require some degree of skill."

Thats when it hit me. I finally understand what skill really is. Skill has nothing to do with how easy/difficult a weapon is to use. To be skillfull and professional is to always know what tools to use to come out on top in any given scenario. Balance should only mean that one single weapon is never powerful outside of its own "best" scenario. Barret's, Rugers, AUGS, and AKs willl always be the best choices for large, open maps. Shotguns, MP5s, miniguns (seriously), and desert eagles will always be the best in close quarters maps. Maps with lots of obstacles and hills and such will always favor weapons like the deagles, m79, and other autos.

I believe using a certain weapon "out-of-context" is what really makes it a "noob weapon" because you are the noob using a not-so-effective-weapon-in-this-situation.

It is your ability to always choose the best weapons for whatever challenge you are presented with that really makes you skillfull, not your ability to use one weapon well in any situation.

That's very true. I was in a game and someone called me a sprayer for using the MP5. In another game, another guy said it was a noob weapon because it fires fast. :| I use the MP5 all the time, and I occassionally use the Ak-47. I am definately not a noob player, and I'm not trying to sound smug here.

I totally agree. Well, ofcourse you can be more skilled with some weapons than others, but I'm on your side about it being the decisions you make with and throughout the map that decides who's skillfull and who's not.

Great definition, mate.

That's the truthest thing I've heard today. Every map has its own effective weapons. Like on Nuubia and Kampf I like to use the spas, but on Run I mainly use the Steyr or Ruger.
When people complain about people using "noob guns" they just can't take it they've been beaten.

Once again the Minimi is the weapon that time and space forgot   ;D

FN mini's the best weapon ever, it's still an auto but you can control the bink :) unlike ak which is too slow to even be considered an auto.

and other autos are binked too much with weapon arcs that it's hard to ever control the bink with skill.

FN mini requires most skill and is useful in all situations, even in close situations, except when ak's come in, those big brown sticks seems to be able to stop mini....

Plus, it binks barret the most.

Depending in the situation of course, I find AKs are ok to beat when im using my good'ol FN Minimi. Its a decent Ruger user that is normaly my demise

What the f*ck is 'noob' anyway? Retards use the word to insult somebody or something they don't like. The word has no definition. It's best to ignore those kind of idiots.
About the minigun...I like to use minigun for longer ranges because you can't do much with it close. While you start up the minigun, and if lucky shoot a few bullets out, you're already dead. So when I use it I try to keep distance. Some people wonder how I manage to kill them with that weapon and others, who constantly get killed by it, just call me and my minigun a 'noob'.

You know, this is probably the most intelligent thing I have read in a good while on Soldat Forums.

Ain't that the truth...
All weapons have their ups and downs, just gotta learn em, use em, and kick butt with em!

i, and about every other auto user, have prolly been called a sprayer......i thyink that this word is used so out of context.  Spray is when someone has a minigun(good example, but it can be any) and is just sitting at their base, and covereing an area with bullets. They just shoot over a certain area, like a bridge, to keep people away/kill them.  <==that is spraying....what I,twistkill(i have played with him), and many others i have seen wrongly accused, DO NOT spray.

EDIT: On topic, that was a good post....actually worth reading. That is Marc Anthony turns a crowd-a-mutinous kinda stuff lol.

Maybe it is true, but most people use their favorites and if they know how to use them properly I think it doesn't make any diffrence. Of course spray is g**. :>

Of course spray is g**. :>
Almost any non-auto user will say this.
Just don't forget the golden rule that every weapon is a noob weapon, or is cheap, or takes no skill. :)

If you hit someone with a barret while not moving, your called a camper.  If you kill someone from far away with an auto, your called a sprayer.  People always do this just as a pathetic way of revenge for being killed.

Yea, there are too many people that define spraying as simply firing an auto fast or at long range, even if its done accurately with skill. Sometimes people act as if auto users are supposed to fire autos like Rugers if they are not to be lame  :-\

just tell the spray accusers to check the score afterwards. Usually when the word spray is thrown around, its a bad players justification of their lack of skill. BTW, lets not get this thread locked, im sorry i kinda hijacked it.

its simple, some players just cant handle losing so they think up any excuse to bag you and call you a noob.
Title: Re: Skill.
Post by: Slashnoob on June 15, 2006, 05:07:44 am
when i'm using an ak47 i'm a sprayer
when i'm using an m79 its a noob gun that takes no skill - quote: Skill? No need, get a m79!
when i used the barret i was a barretard

conclusion - people like to complain.

solution? turn the damn chat console off. Seriously, try it. It's right at the top of the ini and it's in the config.exe settings.

It's like playing with really intelligent by humanly flawed silent bots.

It also takes skill to learn to use your weapon out of context. Anyway when people start whining about how a weapon takes no skill I tell them to use it and pwn me, if not well then they can be quiet :D
