Title: /refresh
Post by: zyxstand on October 03, 2006, 04:13:08 pm
the new non-admin player and server command:  /refresh

It would reset everything such as color of players (would solve the glitch that sometimes you see enemy colored teammates), scores on the F1 menu, and any other possible glitches such as the constant connecting and disconnecting of players and even yourself.

three things this can do:
#1. player's computer asks for basic info and settings.
#2. server actually runs a checkup on everything (such as color of ppl, scores, server-glitches, etc.)
#3. server would go to all its clients and reupdate everything that it would do as in #1 (to prevent glitches on other client players (someone else disconnecting and reconnecting)).

Of course flooding would have to be dealt with (which i'm not gonna get into cuz mm himself could figure this out better).  Other than that this idea could be very useful.

I like this idea. I probably wouldn't use it much, but a nice idea nonetheless.

Mmm, well, if this can be implemented only by changing the server executable, i think it should definitely be added.

Cant be done unless you rejoin the server.

i'm sure certain things can - such as telling ur computer that a person left when he accidentally is still registered on the client (causing someone to constantly disconnect and reconnect) - or telling ur computer someone switched teams (when ur comp still shows him as the enemy) or let the server update the F1 list...  it seems totally reasonably doable.

Some things can, but its not really worth the time and effort anyway

It would be more worth the time to fix the bugs themselves, rather than introduce a workaround for the bugs while ignoring the underlying issues.

It sounds like a good idea, but there should be a time limit in between /refresh-es. Imagine the type of people who would make it outside the map, and sit there typing /refresh /refresh /refresh /refresh /refresh /refresh /refresh /refresh...

Oh teh lagz!

Hence I mentioned flooding.  Requiring at least a minute between /refresh would be a good and simple solution.
