Post by: Michal Marcinkowski on October 14, 2006, 08:24:39 am
A new version of Soldat is being worked on. The new release will contain mainly bug fixes. It will be out soon, after tests are done. That's all the news for now.

Can we have an approximate time of release? A month, 5 years?

Phew! I thought it wasn't comin!

Do you think you could make bots chat appear on the top of the screen, instead of only over their heads? it would really help a lot because I am trying to make realistic bots, including how they speak. I made this suggestion at soldatmods.tk

iss there a changelog posted somewhere? or like a "to-do" list?

Very nice. Fix them bugs, especially the hit registering, which in the opinion of many went for the worse with the change from 1.3.0 to 1.3.1. I'd love to see my DEagles reliable in any conditions. And fix something on them hackers. Make Soldat send electroshocks via the net or something.

Are you considering adding any more maps to the default list or will this update contain solely bug fixes? There's some great maps out there.

Good luck Michal, don't get too fustrated... remember: there's an answer to almost everything.
Title: Re: Announcing 1.3.2

Wow... I never thought this would happen.

Anyways id be glad if it had a barretstartup.wav. Just like the sound in minigun except the same on barret.
it can be a blank sound with nothing. just a silent  .wav file.
(this request is for modding purposes)

Also a map with Serial killers light scenery would be great. because those are so frequently used and would make it much less stuff to download.

Oh yea, and make the flag a stable object aswell. its just so random when you throw it.

One of the main things I like about updates to the Soldat game are the various new maps.
They're the first things I look for in an update.

And gosh, I hope the whole "Wrong Map Version Detected" thing is fixed. I want to be able to just download the map while still in the game.

Perfect. That's what's needed. 1.3.1 would be the best version if all of the bugs that came with it were scraped away. :) Keep on coding...

And also cuz Michal said so...

Gee i hope some of these bugs are addressed:
1. change team kick (if that's client-side)
2. texture change with mod change <--especially this one for my mod mixer to work properly)
3. % no-damage hits decrease (probably network coding)

Thanks MM

This is what I'm really hoping for with this release. That's so annoying and discourages balancing the teams.

Give Michal some time, it's best that he and the beta testers are completely sure that the bugs that they have wanted to fix are fixed. Also, that any new bugs that have been occurring since the update have been identified and fixed as well.

You don't want to wait a year for him to release it early and find out there is even more bugs than he started with.

assuming it's just bug fixes, i'd suggest releasing it asap...but if it's like gameplay tweaks and stuff like weapon balance i'd suggest after sctlf playoffs finishes...it'll also give the clans to hurry up and play their matches so the new version will be released.

I'm getting tired of a bug in version 1.3.1, it's this one: many times when I enter in a server my game is aborted, and I recieve a message saying: "wrong map version". Is this going to be fixed in version 1.3.2, man this is getting me very, very angry because I can't play in almost all the servers that don't use custom maps.

Fix it, please

What about the give-away of the source code? :)

If that ever happens, it won't be a development period, it'll be the total fracturing and eventual death of the community.

Why is everyone complaining about the wait? 1.2.1 -> 1.3 took much longer.

Indeed, we haven't been able to test the shield secondary weapon or anything yet.

Too bad i did not mean making Soldat open-source. And also, does it matter who would be the coders be? I mean, I am sure that group of 3-10 people can provide more bugfixes, features, tech-support, faster update cycles than MM. Also if the group were something like well-known, Soldat would probably get some new faces to community aswell. Thats all about it.

Will this new version have lag taken out of it?  I really don't think it was a good game element from the start.  Some amount of unpredictability is good and all, but it's not really that fun.

Do you actually know what lag IS?
It pretty much depends on the users and on the server and not on the game o_O

That would be a pretty sweet addition.  ;D

While I didn't really believe it given the standard NO WEAPONS OR VEHICLES blah blah blah, people not involved with the beta test of the new version don't have anything to go on except what those playing the new version say. He said that enesce is lying.

He told me that there will be a new weapon, called the reil gun. The "reil" gun is a powerful weapon, and it will be a bonus like or a normal wep (u can change that).  The new option in Weapon Modding will be bmudru aka Basic Masive Unlike Drum Reactive Underground, it will be AIO (all in one) psychics, gravity, bink, all others...

And thats all..

bmudru and reil gun... yea..

Hah, I remember back in the day when 1.3 was in beta.

The beta testers told everybody that bullets would ricochet and that there was a new bullet time feature... Nobody/very few believed them, but then it turned out to be the truth. Pretty good practical joke actually.
1.21 you mean, and yes, splendid joke.

Before 1.3, there were half lies about new features, such as King of the Hill mode, which really ended up being HTF, then there was the weapon editor (they showed it as a "new" weapon, complete with a screenshot of a .ini'ed gun), and backflip, which ended up being completely true.

Good times.

I'm not Michal, but...

There are no new guns, I'm sure of that. There may be some new default maps, but I doubt that.

And I'm sure Michal will tell us when he releases it, so check www.soldat.pl from time to time. Usually everyone in the game finds out about the release in a short amount of time, it gets around all the Soldat servers quickly.

Explodes really big: Feasible, probably, unless you wanted to change the size of the explosion graphic.

Bullet that falls upward = individual gravity for each bullet. May cause some problems with having to add to each class a gravity variable.

Bullet that bounces = a ricochet/max bounce angle addition to the class' variables, again, may cause problems.

I'm not MM, but they aren't all "easy."

Entertainment releases get leaked all the time and games hacked/modded against the creators wishes, but all this amounts to is harmless information. The only "wrong" being done is by whichever idiot(s) went against the NDA, assuming there was one for the beta testers.

the realmode weapons gets its own weapon.ini.

How is that something negative to you!? For one, we will get balanced weapons for realmode, in realmode. and not balanced weapons for normal mode, in realmode. See the difference there?

There are some weapons which are considered too good in normal mode, which is almost never used in realmode. that is the stuff that should and hopefully will get changed.

There will always be new people around the ages of 9-12 who will come to these forums and straightaway ask for vehicles and new guns, even if you were to put a huge banner saying 'NO NEW WEAPONS/VEHICLES!' Might as well deal with it and just give them a polite 'no' instead of throwing a hissy fit about it.

You're so right. But they allways ask, because it hears fun. Maybe Michal should do that in one version, then they see how I think... The implementation cars, tanks and whatever, would be the biggest shit ever.

And when you wanna play with vehicles, you can play sure Crimson Glory soon. uuumm... plane's are at least in there. we'll see.

Now that I'm playing more with custom maps, I'm really seeing how annoying this bug is and hope it gets fixed as well. I think this makes some people less likely to play non-default maps.

you know, if it was possible to make scripted maps in soldat, one could simulate what vehicles would be like. then people could see how unbalenced it may be.

or, in the off chance it doesn't suck, they can keep playing those scripted maps, and if we want, we can just not go to those servers.

just make a new section for scripted maps and you wont kill the current soldat community with a map format change.

oh, look at that, problem solved.

Damn I was playing Nate Adams motocross and Gravity Defied on my mobile. Then I remembered elasto mania and then I understood how perfectly a motorbike would fit soldat. Left button - shift weight to left (to the left wheel), right button - to the front wheel, up button - accelerate, down - brake, jump - get off the ride. In realistic you could get damage for crashing. Damn, this would be awesome.

-.-" To overcome THAT vehicle problem all you need to do is place an equal amount of vehicles on either side of the map.

But there are no vehicles anyway, so this is completely off-topic.
Title: Re: Announcing 1.3.2
Post by: aleksanteri on November 29, 2006, 08:06:38 am
Yeah I agree; no vehicles, except, as ElephantEater said, there should be vehicles around everywhere. But then what happens is that we will have everyone shooting vehicle shots and no infantry. If we had some guys using vehicles and some infantry it would be unbalanced. So throw those vehicles out of Soldat.

Well I also think that the minigun shouldn't have a bink, which is annoying. Instead perhaps the stationary HMG should have a small shake in Realistic mode, but not an actual bink. What do you think? Also bink up the Barret plz.

Personally I think it shouldn't have bink, and be a wee bit more accurate.

The minigun graphically lags some computers (as in lag that is caused by the local computer being unable to handle all the pixels). If these changes were implemented, more people will start minigunning and computers such as mine will find it harder to play.

Not being self-centered here, but wasn't one of the plus-sides of Soldat was that any old bust-up computer with a 8GB hard drive should still be able to run it smoothly?

jesus pplz use ur damn brain....there is no true dead line just be patient...good god! and besides vehicles would ruin the game.
EXAMPLE: lets say alpha has a tank, buuuuuuut bravo doesnt, a alpha member gets in ze vehicle and GOES BOOM BOOM KABLAM ON BRAVOS ARSE then alpha would dominate the round....period. GO EAT UR DONUTS, CHILDRENS

true, but much more significant is the fact that tanks cant fly. and you would be able to move 2 inches on most maps.
But im for a mech suit( that CAN fly) wich launches guided rockets and has gathling gun and is a powerup like vest. and you get 2 points for killing it.

The servers version of the default map is an older version than the one you have, or the one you have is corrupt or, more likely, the servers version is corrupt.

I can deal with the corrupt maps, what gets to me is the bug that causes you to get voted for kick for possible cheating on most servers. I'm not asking if this is being fixed, because I'm fairly certain it's been stated it will, but I will however express my sheer joy at the notion that I will never again have to suffer that when I walk into a server >_>

(most modders will know what im saying!)

Y'know how you can get team gosteks to look different, thereby giving the look of uniforms and such.

I would like to speak on behalf of a few modders who would like this element of soldat programming to be extended to weapon graphics. This would benefit shuch mods as 'Field Marshal's ww2 mod as we could then have germans using german weapon and allies using allied weapons.

If yer get my meaning!  ;D

Ignore The Bone Collector. Soldat's lobby server isn't working at the moment, it's not a problem with your computer. Give it some time, and it'll get fixed eventually. :)

More more offtopic but o'well.. :/
It can not happen, because noöne would be that dumb that he would make the word-censor to read the actual post AFTER it is censored, because that would result in that bug, and would waste CPU-time, and that all for nothing, since all the censored are already replaced by the first censor-run.

And something for the topic.. In which phase is the beta testing right now? Weapon balance decided yet? :o Alot of work to do? :/

Yep, or watching your tank or whatever fall into onto a lower route and be stuck there. Vehicles wouldn't work in Soldat at all. People chiming for vehicles should just look forward to Crimson Glory or buy a used car.

As far as I know just bug fixes.

New features wouldn't really launch it from 1.3.1 to 1.3.2 the increase would be larger. However with this mysterious MM it could well have a new engine :P

I don´t think there is going to be anything new and special in 1.3.2....maybe new weapon balance, and pray for god the "map not found or cannot be downloaded" is solved...also the "wrong map version detected" bug taken away would be nice. I hope in some distant future the problems of m79 would be solved (came back into normal mode recently, and i was shicked how many ppl actually used m79...like...everyone :/)

BUNNEH EARS?!

Hahaha I got a squiggly red line under "Coloured" even though that's the right spelling. I don't know about the "weird" American spelling, though.

It'd be cool to get a teaser trailer on the day before the any new Soldat version is released.
Like if they fix the "Wrong Map Detected" bug, they could zoom in on the map downloading in-game while quickly flashing a sumbliminal message of sexy naked women.

VEICHLES would never come, but you never know
offtopic:
even tho veichles would be kinda cool to a sense...there is only 2 things i see good in having them is an opening to new mappin possiblilties...not the same ol' maps bigger scale, design, etc, etc...and a better tactic to playin soldat.....other than that i think it would be kinda a very BAD idea cuz people will Abuse the hell out of it...it will take Tk-ing to a new level on R/S servers and well you get the point

No, I am not. I'd rather rip some current features away and then replace them with a working anti-cheat system. It is a big problem, alot of strage things happen during clanwars, especially with some unknown clans which just play like they were playing for 20 years.

As I have probably said before, 5 weeks strangely does not translate to 16 weeks?  Does that mean MM intended for the release to take more than 11 weeks and said 'soon'?

Haven't we learned from the past that when MM says it will be out soon, it MIGHT be out somewhere in the next 4-8 months.

there never was anything intended except for that 1.3.2 would be a bug fix.. As we noticed more bugs and got more ideas to add to the game, MM just did the right thing and changed alot more than first thought. More features, with help from a few others fixed some bigger problems than just the game itself, and so on and so on.

So you can just forget all that bullshit about when its gonna be released and when someone said it could be released, because noone knows, not even MM himself.

mm did say he added some new features right? Probably nothing major and i have got the idea its going to be "registered only"......

Well, there are going to be new things for registered members but I doubt it will be anything major that would give us an advantage during game play. Most of the Soldat community is unregistered and it would be an unintelligent move on Michal's part in my opinion.

Lies. I wouldn't play this game without the community. Not even 50% of the community would register it even if MM got lucky, so there wouldn't be that community anymore.

+Most of the ppl rather use a cracked registerkey than pay 15$ for playing this game.

...and stop agruing about the version number, it doesn't matter what version-number it is written it. The result matters.

So it suddenly becomes horrible just because hampa wants to make a bit of profit from all his hard work? You don't even have to register; that's just for more features, like Soldat. Toribash is still free to play.

Be glad Soldat or Toribash or other such games don't have time-based or playcount-based limits; you can enjoy this stuff as long as you want, for free. You have no reason to complain.

yet another month passes by and no new news on the soldat webpage, it has now been 20 weeks (141 days) since the announcement.  I wonder how long it took MM to program and release the first version? this must have some real serious improvements. I wonder how much the hits to his website have increased?  I am sure he could see a massive increase to traffic since the announcement and how many people are so eager to download the new version.

Clearly, MM is taking too long with this project, and is thus failing his job as creator, ruler and sex-god of all things Soldat. I feel that a vote of no confidence is in order, and that we must find someone who can be prompt and swift with this job in place of MM. Because, clearly, MM cannot handle it.

Clearly.

It's MM's very own fault that everyone is complaining. What's the fucking point on announcing a game that wont come even in a near future? Just like CG, last summer he said that it will be out by the end of summer. Now he announced the new version of Soldat at 10.14.2006 and its almost 6 -months of it. Then after that, he says that Soldat will cost 15$ or smth after 1.3.2 is released, and makes ppl to register it. Apparently he is trying to get all the money out that he can take, and will never finish the new version, or if he will, it will suck.

Hey, butthole, how about you just wait 'till it's done? You're not in the position to be giving comments on HIS work. It is HIS project, and he's working on it ALONE (with all due respect to the beta-testers). It's gonna be a big improvement, with even new features, as MM himself mentioned, so give him a break. I bet he's doing everything he can to release this, so back off.

Like I said. It's his own fault that everyone is waiting for it. If he wants to do it without community breathing on his neck (in private), he wouldn't announce it 6 months early. MM has added lots of new stuff, and he has also removed lots of the added stuff.

He made the community wait. Now we are all waiting. You just can't deny it with all the crap that it's his project.

I am waiting, and did I say that I want it to be done faster? I just told you a fact.

Anyway, if you ask me, he takes his time to code it, only because he wants ppl to register while it's 10$. <- And that's just my opinion, don't be mad at me if you don't agree with me, but that's just how I see it.

This thread has more shit in it than a fat mans toilet after a night out at a Mexican restaurant.

Stop being a bunch of assholes assuming he has all this free time.

I was about to say the same.

Honestly, so what if he has taken 6 months?
So what if he isnt http://www.kevan.org?

It builds anticipation...

I just really wish he put out a bug/anti-hack version to alleviate the wait, he can come out with 'new features' later, I really don't care for them anyways. 6 months is too long, I can't even tell who the hell is real and who's hiding behind hacks and spray these days.

The difference is that the heart patient will die in 6 months...

WHY ARE WE HAVING INTERNET ARGUMENTS IN THE FIRST PLACE?!

The thing is that we are not impatient, it is just clearly dissappointing to hear "OH It'S gonna come out soon for sure!"
And after 6 months nothing's happening and the creator himself doesn't even make a statement. This is what my point was.

Was my point too. He hasn't got balls to take the responsibility needed. He announced it, and now he's just wanking around. If he didn't announce it, or atleast have said, that it aint coming out soon, then it would be ok.

But the point is he didn't!

Right...time to take you fellas out of the dark here.

There was problems with compiling back in December which set us back a bit, and since then there has been more and more things that needed testing and fixing as he kept on improving. Lots...of new things.

Michal has been extremely ****ing busy with this. The amount of mad crap he's tweaked up and changed is unfreaking believable and shadows over all past versions. A new beta just came out for all the testers to test, and it's riddled with bugs 'cos of all the crazy stuff he's improved and added 'again', so it's going to take a bit of time to iron out.

How long? I can't say. If nothing else gets added or majorly changed from here on, I 'could' guess to somewhere around the end of the month/beginning of April. But that is definitely no guarantee, and not even Michal himself could estimate a reliable release time when judging his own war-crazed 16-hour-a-day-coding madcap mind.

Fact is...he's working on it. Quite a bit actually. And because of that, theres more problems created, needing to be found and then fixed... all to make a nice tight package upon release. And Michal has a very, very nice package.

...anyhow, i'm gonna lock this thread. S'getting a bit big and open-ended and stuff. Soldat 1.3.2 is NOT out yet, and when it is we'll be sure to let you know asap.
