Title: wiki.soldat.pl - Soldat Wiki
Post by: Denacke on June 16, 2006, 11:39:08 am
Dear soldat users

A wiki is a website where everyone can edit and create new articles. This allows everyone a chance to contribute, and results in a quickly growing wiki. A prime example of a wiki is the wikipedia.org website (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page).

A few months ago, we launched the Soldat Wiki (http://wiki.soldat.pl/). We aim to make a complete source of information regarding any aspect of soldat. This can be the technical side of soldat, the community around soldat and even fan art and applications.

A few notes when you edit or create articles:
- Try to be as objective as possible.
- Stick to the same style (look at other articles and copy the lay-out)
- Don't vandalize (read below for what you can do against vandalism).
- Don't add credits, a wiki is made by everyone.
- Don't put copy copyright material in articles.
- We recommend creating an account when you want to edit the wiki. We are still looking for active administrators and we can't give those to anonymous people. :)

Vandalism:
Why not to: Vandalizing pages will result in getting a ban from the Soldat Wiki. Also note that your IP is visible to everyone when you edit or create a wiki page (unless you make an account).
What you can do against it:When you see a page that has been vandalized, edit it back to its previous state (preferably with a relevant comment such as 'Vandalism' so admin users can see there was trouble and ban the user).

If you see someone asking a question on the forums that is answered by a wiki article, please link them to it.  If you see someone asking a question and you feel it should be in the wiki, please add it to the wiki and link the question-asker to it.

The wiki is a great idea, and I hope it will be around for a long time.

Does anyone know who owns/maintains/hosts the wiki?  I'd like to speak to them about a couple things

Denacke and/or Ender, I think.

Also yes, I love this idea. Wikis are awesome.

Wiki has a problem: people can say that he wants about a thread he thought true.

That's what we have other users for to correct them. Mistakes are taken out the wiki very fast :)

Once I get my new clansite up and running, I'm gonna add mine to the clanlist.  MY pathetic-excuse-for-a-clansite I have now will be changed.

Heh...

Who was the person who said that the AK-74 was a machinegun? ???

I changed it so it says assault rifle. :)

Yep - and I asked them repeatedly years ago to make backups and share with the community so that the wiki wouldn't be lost in case they ever went down.  Whaddya know, they didn't listen to me and now it's gone.

For anyone who wants to contribute to a replacement, http://devs.soldat.pl has existed for years as community documentation for developers but can easily be expanded upon to create a larger documentation/wiki base for the community.  Feel free to register and contribute.

It was crowded with spambots and I wasn't able to clean in anymore for the last months so there was only some spam left...

How can you be so sure about no backups btw? soldat.nl is still online and the owner hasn't been online for weeks.

If he hasn't put up a backup or made it available to anyone else then it's pretty much "no backups" since there are no backups available  to us.  the result is the same even if the owner of soldat.nl has backups stored somewhere but he's unreachable :)

As for wiki.soldat.nl you can still access old articles by googling for site:wiki.soldat.nl and then clicking on ">>" and on cached
I guess this one way if not the last one to rescue the wiki.

We just need someone who has the time to do it.

Gave him a text message, you guys are so lucky I made a backup of my contacts 4 years ago, lol.

We'll see if he has some backup. (if he's still using the same number, couldn't reach him by calling, but that might have something to do with my crappy phone)

edit:
Host took it offline cause of the spambots, he has to upgrade and get a new captcha.

Please have him upgrade or provide the community with a copy of the backups so that it can be merged with devs.soldat.pl

I would like to note that devs.soldat.pl is spammed with, well, spam (check out the recently modified). Consider instead starting fresh, but transferring non-spam content from soldat.nl & devs.soldat.pl backups to a newly made wiki (if backups can be received/made).

Also, if that is an option, then also consider a new title. The title devs.soldat.pl seems inappropriate for a general wiki not specific to developers of sorts. For comparability, it could also be made such that devs.soldat.pl redirects to the newly made wiki (if it is on a different url).

I just deleted 496 706 pages of spam, but I need some help now, the main problem with the wiki is that it's totally outdated. So if you want the wiki to be useful, contribute, delete all spam you can find and update the main pages.

(I've deleted all spampages that were made from 100 days ago, but it's impossible to check more than 100 days ago, lack of memory)

edit: spam is still there from may 9 - Jul 3 (http://wiki.soldat.nl/w/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges&hideliu=1&days=365&limit=500) dealt with

Now just crawl to all articles without any references.. (http://wiki.soldat.nl/w/index.php?title=Special:DeadendPages&limit=500&offset=0)

OK... As some of you probably know, for few days I'm working on new wiki.soldat.pl that replace old devs.soldat.pl

http://wiki.soldat.pl/index.php/Main_Page

Taking to the account that for now its one-men job, I think I did quiet a lot: Logo(simple but still), New pages in main menu, filled script database, modified looots of pages, updated few sites like version history, added few bigger pages like basic waypoints, soldat Introduction and  soldat configurations... etc. etc.

I don't mid that I work alone for now. It even better, because at start of such project its good to know what is done and what need more work, no one mess with your work that you still modify :]

Of course I'm not gonna fill all pages by my self... its impossible. I'm gonna prepare  base so its gonna be easier to future work. Because if you think about it, Wiki is really important.

Forum is good for discussion and latest news. But of someone look for basic informations, tutorials, database, server informations its way better to have simple, and easy to read pages that are categorized and without offtopic discussions.

Soo.. even if I didnt finish my basic plan of preparing everything to fill with text.
I think I should post here sometimes logs of what I did, and small works that someone else could do.

For example I just created Scripting basics page:
http://wiki.soldat.pl/index.php/Scripting_basics
Its still need some work(I need to prepare pages for tutorials from forum) but I think It should be as simple as possible so typical user would understand it(that why I think its good that typical user write this wiki. Dev probably would bore us with technical "blablabla" xD ).

But I think someone from old users/devs should add something to "Story of Soldat Script Core" Because It would be nice to have small story of how its work and how its was created...
I know that some of you have mixed feeling about EnEsCe but no matter if its bad or good, its would be nice to have story about it.
Loots of people like to read such things :]

Its should be small-medium text, nothing fancy just story with dates and people behind it. :]

Also I had plan to write story of Soldat in "Soldat" General section, but if anyone is interested to write it be my guest... Just remember to make it easy to read and you can add some funn addons about soldat ;)

PS. I think that we should prepared this wiki to future spam attacks... capacha or something.
Because even in this few days I deleted about 4 sites with spam made by this users:
Code: [Select]
Sampanclutch4
Winesusan0
Cousin74men
 Piscesvan9

4 days 4 spam pages... more activity in this site= more spam bots shows up...

Akinaro, if you're up for the challange, go to the archive of the defunct wiki.soldat.nl (the official wiki for a long time, which was the point of this thread) and migrate over posts. You can see the snapshots taken from that site on the waybackmachine here: http://web.archive.org/web/20110720234633/http://wiki.soldat.nl/Index and other ones here http://web.archive.org/web/20110401000000*/http://wiki.soldat.nl

OK I'll start with Soldat Basics and Advanced Soldat.

But there can be problem with this spam bots: 4 days, 6 spam bots accounts, and about 5 spam pages(including about 4 older)... in this speed this wiki gonna end like old one...

I'll need to implement the same level of protection Furai and I did with the KAG wiki. Media wiki by itself has next to zero spam protection so it relies on 3rd-party plugins to do the job properly. I'll keep this thread posted.

edit: I just added a few anti spam plugins. To address your point about this wiki dying like the other one, the other one (from soldat.nl) died because its owner(s) stopped giving a shit, not due to spam.

I know but its one of the point :] too much spam compared to pages :]

beside I think it something wrong:
Quote
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "AbuseFilterHooks::onListDefinedTags". Database returned error "1146: Table 'soldatdevs.wikiabuse_filter_action' doesn't exist (db-master.thd.vg)".

I was editing All Basic Information about sceneries page and i get similar error. Everywhere I get this error...
everywhere:

Thanks. I'll fix that now.

edit: fixed. Verified I was able to update the front page. Changed "Informations" to "Information" as information is already plural. Does your browser not underline broken words in dotted red or is it set to non-English?

edit2: I just blocked like 5 spambots and deleted the stuff they created.

edit3: please link me to future spam things (via PM or whatever) and I'll kill them off and improve anti spam technologies

That makes me feel a little lucky that I just know one language, English. Us Americans can't be multilingual like all you European folk. :)

Keep up the good work at updating the wiki. I saw you have 230+ edits over the past 30 days. That makes me happy.

I made a very little edit on the wiki here:
http://wiki.soldat.pl/index.php/Soldat#Default_Controls

added: [SHIFT] +
added: Backflip in air - If you are making a jump tot the left/right side and keep W pressed, then you can make a backflip in air at any time. e.g (D+W) (W+A+Fly Button) - remember to keep the jump button active
modified:    [F2] - show your weapon statistic for the current round / [ALT + F2] - show/hide sniper line
    [F3] - show/hide the minimap / [ALT + F3] - show performance statistics (FPS, ping, network bandwith)

OK, I see that Furai is a bit bored, and don't like that I'm here because he give me another warning for... funny meme picture, that you can find here: http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/500x/48159738.jpg

Its seems that Furai have no idea what is meme, especially funny one so Dear  Furai: Screw you.
Don't like me? just ban me, don't play with groundless and stupid warnings.

First one was for what? because DarkCrusade was a dick like always and you tolerate his  flames just because you know him longer? And I just write(quote): "There is Test section when you can post your laments", If for this I get warning half of users here would get ban

And now another warning for funny meme that was sarcastic way to encourage to work on Wiki

OK, I get it. Sorry jrgp and other its seems that some people dont like my work here.

Let me repeat: we love your eagerness and zealous work. Your remakes of old maps are gorgeous and your work with the wiki and the script database is fabulous. But the way you behave around people on the forum is why you are treated the way you are treated by us dicks. But it's impossible to make you see that, because you are ignorant above all else.

So let me conclude: every single person on this forum appreciates your effort, but learn the semantics of politeness. If you do that, you'll most likely find out that I am by no means a 'dick'. I simply have a certain level of etiquette which you do not share at the moment.

The rules say no "image macros," and what you linked to definitely is:

Quote
Also, no image macros are allowed. Image Macros/'Funny' pictures are not allowed here because the Soldat Forums are superior to other forums, thanks to Communism.

I don't know why you're complaining. The rules state that the admins/mods/staff have the final say in all arguments. We're not here to piss you off; we're here to uphold rules set almost ten years ago.

Keep making maps and keep updating the wiki and stop complaining. That is all any of us wants you to do.

But it's impossible to make you see that, because you are ignorant above all else.

I agree with your entire post, but that sentence you said is likely to piss him off such that he ignores the rest of what you said.
