Title: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah | A WWII Conversion for Soldat
Post by: ultraman on November 04, 2006, 06:53:49 am
I realise there are a few WWII mods out there, but I'm big CoD player and I want to make a CoD mod for Soldat, I doubt it will be as good as Field Marshal's upcoming WWII: TCS, but this is my first mod, so calm down please ;D

I've got SpazP3k3r helping me with this mod, so he gets credit too ;D
The weapons so far

If anyone knows where we can get any WWII sound effects that would be nice ;D

P.S Can everyone tell me what they think of the strap on the B.A.R, I wasn't sure whether to put it there or not. SpazP3k3r said no, but I put all 3 version of it there.

The weapons are quite bland , try making them more contrasted. But all in all thats pretty good , and I really like the shape

Very nice ....but It looks more like resized originals to me.

Secks = Gewehr, Scoped 98k,thompson and the B.A.R, they will look ausome on soldat. Keep at it. The straps look ok, id recomend having no strap but it would be different from others.
Title: Re: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah
Post by: The Bone Collector on November 05, 2006, 06:13:45 am
that gewehr 43 looks nice, but they all need a little bit more colour detail. The Buttstock of the thompson and the MP44 need to be more woodish, so maybe a little yellow/timber brown for Thompson.
Other than that, nice work....

offtopic: btw, why has no mod/admin nabbed ^ ^ (stephen) his sig? its 4kbs to big, and about 100pixels to big from what the forum rules say...

Thanks for the comments, btw does anyone know something I could replace M79 with? Did they have grenade launchers in WWII? Same deal for the chainsaw, what can I replace it with? Any ideas for sounds?

I don't know about M79, but your Chainsaw could be restore health, or you could mod it onto another gun (using weapon mod capabilitys)

Yeah, that's a good point, but I don't think I'll do the health restore thing, it would take away the point of having medikits, I wonder what gun to change it for...Btw does anyone know how I can get once of the weapon set editor doo-hickeys like in 40K, Mecha and Spec Ops etc. mods, where you choose your guns before launching the game? Do I have to make it myself? ???

That would be Lord Ivans config right?
Use the searh function of the forums, or check the archives of the old forums.

FAKE EDIT: I did it for you, but no results. PM Ivan, and he might send it to you. Be aware that he's a busy guy, and he may reply very slowly (i.e no reply for a week or 3)

I PM'd Lord Ihvan but more importantly:
UPDATE: Added M1 Garand, Springfield and Colt 1911

I did the Garand, SpazP3k3r did the Colt and the Springfield.

That colt is nice, but I do believe that the colt isn't that colour (it isn't that colour on CoD 1, as I have that game)

I love the shading very much actually i love it.
Weapons look very cool.

The machinegun is the best.

There is an excessive amount of jaggies on the Thompson. By "jaggies" I mean pixels which stick out and keep the gun from looking "smooth". Try messing with the lower part of the stock and the handle so that it looks straight. Also, the trigger is in the wrong place.
Title: Re: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah | A WWII Conversion for Soldat
Post by: -viper-storm- on November 05, 2006, 02:58:31 pm
Lol i was going to say that. The older weapons look better, i.e the german ones. The m1 garand looks...off. The springfield is nice but the upper stock part it TOO smooth.
Title: Re: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah | A WWII Conversion for Soldat
Post by: Mistercharles on November 05, 2006, 05:35:49 pm
All to most of the weapons have been shrunk. It's fact. My reasoning is that the guns have more than 256 individual colors. No one, not even gameover, uses that large of a palette. Plus, the mediocre outlining kinda made it obvious that you don't pay that much attention to detail.

Nice try.
Title: Re: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah | A WWII Conversion for Soldat
Post by: Wraithlike on November 05, 2006, 07:36:32 pm
MC, how do you find out how many individual colors are in an image?
Title: Re: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah | A WWII Conversion for Soldat
Post by: Mistercharles on November 05, 2006, 07:53:38 pm
^Opened up photoshop, pasted image onto a new canvas, saved a GIF, used exact color palette. PS tells me how many colors the palette has.

Hey this is my first post Just an update that Ultraman hasn't put up yet, we have finished almost all the russian and british guns so in game gun graphics will be starting soon
Title: Re: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah | A WWII Conversion for Soldat
Post by: ultraman on November 06, 2006, 02:43:43 am
I promise you, these are not shrinkdowns, they took me very very long time. I did have  photos of the guns to work from though.

P.S If you want me to stop the mod because you think the guns are resizes, I will. But personally I'd rather like to finish it...
Title: Re: CoD 2: The Last Hurrah | A WWII Conversion for Soldat

just because they have so many colours, doesn't mean these a shrinkdowns. Maybe he's the first to attempt this many colours in one pixelated image!...if you guys fix them to and make them smoother, this may become my replacement mod :)

I don't think you guys get it. There are over 250 colors in that image, which means the palette would take at least two hours to create, per gun. That also means that there is a slim chance you used the same color twice. One trait of modders is that they like to use the same color as much as possible.

Imo, Soldat was totally ruined after 1.2.1

HERESY! BURN THE WITCH!

Mistercharles, am I mistaken in that the point of this forum and/ or its related game is to have fun? Perhaps you could let that happen in peace and stop accusing us? Personally I really don't care how we made those guns. They are images and they have been painstakingly, whatever you think, made by us and have been modified to an almost full extent from any original images used as templates to help with gun design and shape. If your purpose here is to halt the fun of the users of this forum and the creators of this modification (which I might add is a fun and interesting experience) then I suggest that you reevaluate that purpose. I thank all those users that have been very supportive of the Mod development so far and I disagree with Ultraman on the point that we will withdraw creation of the Mod if by vote it is said that you do not want us to continue in it's creation. It is for our enjoyment that this mod is in the process of creation, any joy or otherwise it brings anyone else is simply a by-product from the main purpose of the mods creation. I am sorry if insulting this Mod has taken up any of your most valuable time.

Record the sounds from CoD using that free audio recorder, I forget what it's called.

If you want to quickly fix the thompson jaggies, feel free to take the butt off mine, or whatever other peices you want.

HERESY! BURN THE WITCH!

I just checked, and found that the trench gun uses exactly 250 colors for the gun, 0,255,0 green, and 0,0,0 black. So I really doubt you can color a gun without using a color twice if you can't remove jagged edges. Not to offend, because some of the guns look really nice, but some are just ugly because the lighting is weird.

And there isn't really anything wrong about shrinkdowns, but hand made guns are better.

And if you can prove I'm wrong, then I'm a dick and I revoke everything I just said.

1.make it a mortar launcher
2.make it a panzerfaust (recommended)
and make the law like that american rocket launcher the one with the scope.
about sound i dont have anything to help you but you can try to google it
try "gun soundeffects" yea that might work i hope i helped

Or use pakscape to explore pk3 files in CoD, CoD2, MoHAA, ET, RTCW and lot of other games that use pk3 files...

A trait out of laziness, merely commonly shared, but not 100% among Soldat artists. I don't see why you find resize jobs so terrible anyways; even if these are, they've obviously been tweaked heavily to still look good in their smaller variants.

Sorry about my rant earlier, I just don't like it when people spend a couple minutes on their weapons via shrinkdowns, then claim that they made them. To me, it's kind of like plagiarism, which I'm not a fan of.
