OK, I'm just gonna put it up and we'll work out exactly how modified animations work as we go along. If you manage to break something, please tell me. If you're running the old one, then delete it.

What's new:

Download: www.gamers-pit.com/szevvy/poa_editor_0.4.exe  (409 kb)

Oh, and READ THE HELP FILE! It's like a mini-tutorial for once.

You can edit preassigned anims like the action of rolling or stabbing a knife. I believe the POA was used in the Special Operations mod to change knife from stab to overhead slash? Good if you want to change action of using chainsaw into sword but I have used POA editor and it is touchy and tedious at best. You have to edit EVERY FRAME to the best of my knowledge in order to have a complete animation (and some animations are about 50 frames long!)

I'm sure it's a bug, but when I view animations, and then select any left or right body parts, it actually highlights the opposite side ie. I select the left foot and it actually selects the character's right foot!
Will we see a fix for this?!

Digi.

^I doubt anyone has the source code. szevvy is probably long gone from the community.

Oh! Damn!
This must be his homepage http://www.szevvy.net/ which has his email addy on it - so I may get in touch with him and see if he still has the source so I can continue work on it! :)

Digi.

That link doesn't work for me, it's also hosted here (http://soldatmods.edgegaming.com/integramod/dload.php?action=file&file_id=35). Here is the source code (http://individual.utoronto.ca/caek/poa_editor_source.zip) (it's in C++).

edit: I meant the link in the first post (didn't notice Spyder's post).

Anna,
Weird, the link works for me fine. I'm on a Windows Mobile device and it works grand.
Thanks for the source, I must check it out and hopefully I can learn alot from it.

Regards,
Digi.

For those who are interested, I got in touch with Michael, the author of POA Ed and requested the source. He was most helpful and provided me with the following links:

Source:  http://www.szevvy.net/downloads/poa_04_src.zip

Binary: http://www.szevvy.net/downloads/poa_editor_0.4.zip

Digi.

What's a source code ?

It's the program before it's compiled into a binary (.exe) that can be run. The source code is provided so if you see something you want to add or fix you can do so easily. If you don't know C++ or want to mess with the program itself, just download the binary.

Also, this is a pretty cool program.

Xtishereb, thanks.
Yeah, so basically if we had the source code for Soldat we'd all be happy guys (and gals).
I know that Soldat will be abandoned someday, I just hope that the source is released then we can build an open source community around it, making the game even better for everyone.

Regards,
Digi.

No. Those commands (what you type after /) are hard coded into the game and just by adding a dance animation won't create a command for it.

Yep, that you could. In order for the animations to be usable online you need to use the exact number of frames in your animation as in the default one, however.

So instead of smoke, if I just did something just as long, other players could see it?

Can't even join servers with modified animations. Not sure if they're compared against the server or against a static checksum.

Yep, that you could. In order for the animations to be usable online you need to use the exact number of frames in your animation as in the default one, however.
You could, for example, make an awesome animation of a spinning gun when reloading.. :D
I couldn't live without it...

I tryed making something, It wont work in other servers (you see the animation, others dont) its just like a weapon mod. YOU see the edited ones. but others dont

PS: If you make an animation that is shorter, or longer then the origional one
(example: origional = 20 Frames, Edit = 25 frames) will get you kicked by the anti hack thingy on some servers!

Also, the animation cannot be used online if you even added AND removed a frame (so its again the default number), all the default frames MUST be there (modded ofc), and no additional ones may be even added.
