Title: Should you retain your score when changing teams?
Post by: Snowden on June 19, 2006, 05:25:12 pm
Many players are reluctant to change teams when the teams are uneven because they will lose their score. In games like CounterStrike this is never a problem because you keep your score if you switch. I think if this were implemented in Soldat it would help improve the state of public servers since players wouldn't need to make sacrafices to make the game fair. Also, since personal scores have no bearing on gameplay, it wouldn't harm anything.

I voted yes merely because I'm sick of having to force people to change teams because of it

I think personal scores should stay with the player, but team scores (like caps) dont move around.

why does it matter? to show someone you're more addicted to a video game or something?

i mean having a score is nice, but i won't care if i changed team so my score got reset, it's not a big deal only a game anyway.

It's all about making sure that no one has the faintest idea you might be a n00b. It's all about image, anyway.

In Counter - Strike, when you change teams you generally lose one point. Maybe something similar could happen in soldat except you'd need to lose more points than one due to the fast nature of the game.

Even so, why does it really matter? Even if the teams are uneven someone will generally join the server and even it before long.

What would be nice to see, however, was an auto team balancing feature which changed people automatically when the teams weren't fair. If blue team were losing by a huge amount maybe the person with the best K:D would automatically be changed over to red to help them out. This could possibly happen at the start of a new map so it doesn't disturb the game too much. Of course, it'd have to be a server option to avoid upsetting people. :P

adding on to beasticly how he said you might lose points when you change teams, i think that could be nice, but why not just keep the same score and do the team score doesnt change? cardboard warrior hit the nail on the head IMO

It's a good idea to make people more willing to even teams out.

Also I've seen suggestions before to seperate kills and caps on the scoreboard, could be good too.

I say no, unless they are being a gentleman/woman and changing teams so it's fair, but to incorporate that would be nonsense.

If someone can't figure out how you've done because of what your score says then nevermind that idiot.

Hey Snowden, you should also write that it would be better if cap points are separate from kill points in ctf and inf games.  Then more people would be willing to vote YES with greater certainty.
What about in team games:  If you kill like 30 people for yellow team giving your team a total of 40 points, and then you switch to blue team who currently has only 5 points, wouldn't it look kind of weird that blue team loses but the F1 scoreboard indicates at the end of the round that blue should clearly have won...

100% AGREE! You should totally keep your scores.

I agree. On the team switching note, more servers need to select the balance teams option to force switches to keep things even. It's bad enough when someone on a losing team decides to defect, making things uneven when they were not. :(
