Title: Soldat and other programs in Vista
Post by: bja888 on June 20, 2006, 02:18:55 pm
It took me a while to figure this out....

When/If you switch over to vista, I reccomend you run all programs as administrator. All the bugs I noticed after I switched are resolved by doing that. This includes soldat! Soldat will not record demos unless you run the program as administrator.

This also helps if you use programs that write to the regestry. Like, idk.... ALL THE PROGRAMS I EVER USE!

Hah bja, that like totally bypasses all the security measures that Vista is trying to implement.

Well, if the program requires you to pay of it. Usually it is written in the registry, is it not? Its the only option!

but absolutely any performance gain you get from running vista is cancelled out by the sheer volume of bloated crap that is stuffed into vista

^exactly

In reality, vista isn't gonna run any better or faster than a virus free version of win2k on a 500 megahertz pc.

now now, vista's a way off yet. The recent beta release does indeed foretell absolute sheer misery for Windows users and gamers (directX10 being Vista only). It'll be a miracle if they can clean it up into a reasonable operating system by the time of it's release, but if they do, things like this 'tweak' hopefully won't be necessary.
