Help hosting a server(yes i read the stickies)
« on: January 20, 2007, 04:41:30 pm »
Well, i'm trying to host my own server from my home computer. I read the stickies and have fowarded the ports correctly(at least I think I have). I have an Actiontec MI-424-WR. When I use enesce's port tester, this is what I get

Step One: Ingame Connectivity Test
Sending PING test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Sending REQUEST test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Sending JOIN GAME test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Step Two: All-Seeing Eye Test
Sending test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23196... FAILED!
Step Three: Remote Administration
Sending test to 71.170.21.63 on TCP Port 23073... FAILED!
Step Four: Map Download Connections
Sending test to 71.170.21.63 on TCP Port 23083... FAILED!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TEST RESULTS:
- Total Passed: 0/6
- UDP Check: error (Vital)
- ASE Check: error
- Admin Check: error
- Download Check: error (Vital)
- Final Test Result: FAILED! Please check your network configuration.

And when I turn on DMZ Host I get this

Step One: Ingame Connectivity Test
Sending PING test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Sending REQUEST test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Sending JOIN GAME test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Step Two: All-Seeing Eye Test
Sending test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23196... FAILED!
Step Three: Remote Administration
Sending test to 71.170.21.63 on TCP Port 23073... FAILED!
Step Four: Map Download Connections
Sending test to 71.170.21.63 on TCP Port 23083... PASS!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TEST RESULTS:
- Total Passed: 1/6
- UDP Check: error (Vital)
- ASE Check: error
- Admin Check: error
- Download Check: check
- Final Test Result: FAILED! Please check your network configuration.

If you want to see the ports i have fowarded, this is what my port fowarding page in my router looks like.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I could really use your help. And yes, I've already gone to http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Actiontec/MI-424-WR/MI-424-WRindex.htm

Well, for one, you have redundant multiple lines; your first entry has 4 ports forwarded and then you re-forward them again on the next lines.

Ensure that your internal IP is, in fact, static, and is entered properly.

You may need to adjust your security settings so that external connections are, in fact, allowed.

I added those extra lines to ensure I didnt make a mistake in my first one, I just never took them off. And yes, im possitive that thats my internal ip.

so how would I check that?

Also, even though enesce's port tester says everything fails, ppl can still join the server, only if I type /lobby because it doesnt stay registered in the lobby for more than 20 seconds. I can also join, but i have to type in my internal ip as the ip or else it just says requesting game and does nothing. The ping of the server is also "? ? ?" even though ppl can still join.

I know that there's some type of bug that keeps the server from staying registered in the lobby, but i dont think thats the only problem i have.

ok, well i deleted the extra lines, and this is what i get

Step One: Ingame Connectivity Test
Sending PING test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... PASS! (-972ms)
Sending REQUEST test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... PASS!
Sending JOIN GAME test to 71.170.21.63 on UDP Port 23073... PASS!

Step Four: Map Download Connections
Sending test to 71.170.21.63 on TCP Port 23083... PASS!

TEST RESULTS:
- Total Passed: 5/6
- UDP Check: check
- ASE Check: check
- Admin Check: error
- Download Check: check
- Final Test Result: FAILED! Please check your network configuration.

ok, so thats a pretty good improvement. When i check my server in the lobby, i still see "? ? ?" ping.
