To move a map in its entirety...
« on: January 27, 2007, 08:37:02 am »
If I find and download a new map... and want to post it to my server, or perhaps move it from one Soldat folder to another...

Please list for me the folders that I need to copy and paste from... Maps: check.  Textures: check.  etc.

Thanks in advance.

If you have downloaded a map then you should just be able to extract it right into a Soldat directory.. that is, if you have saved the original zip file.

Everything you need to copy are in these folders:
  • Scenery-gfx
  • Maps
  • Textures

Now... if someone in my clan finds a cool map and downloads it from a play server... how can we arrange to have them 'give' it to me?

In my nOObish ways, I can imagine that they could zip their Map and Texture and GFX files from their Soldat folder... email it to me... and I could copy their files onto mine quite easily.  I would then have EVERYTHING that they have.  Simple.

But... when it comes to uploading the info to my rented server from EnescE (and I haven't quite got to that step, I'm thinking forward here) , I am imagining that there will be some kind of limit to how much junk EnescE is going to allow... so...

How do I 'keep it clean'?

Is there any easy way to identify what Textures and GFX are needed for a given Map?  Or is it all done by trial and error? (which I could do... just seems likely that you gurus might have a better answer)...  alternately, I could put the question this way:  Is there a way to identify Textures and GFX files that are not necessary for a given set of Maps?

Ah, just remembered that there is some kind of application that will pack a map and it's related files in a zip file. Let me have a look round.

I'd also like to remind you to also get the edges for the map from Textures/Edges, if there are any for the map
