When entering an Advance mode server, you can choose one of the four secondaries. Upon gaining a server-specific number of kills you are allowed to choose a randomly enabled primary weapon. The more you kill, the more primaries you will be able to choose from. The function can also turn against you; it is quite possible that your weapon choice can become limited upon numerous deaths of your own.

Basically you unlock primary weapons as you kill others. Look here for the full article.

I always pick up the weapons of people who die. :P
