Ultimate map pack
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:40:46 am »
Would it be possible to say, attempt to compile every soldat map ever made into one giant mappack? It would be great to get the whole works in one dl, even if it was  around 40-50 mb. I don't know how ridiculous this sounds, I know nothing about compressing files and the transfer of information via internet. But it sure would be convenient. Anyone up to the challenge or know how it could be done? BTW some please add "soldat" to the forum spell checker.

It would be impossible to get all the maps into one pack for serveral reasons.

1. New maps are being made every day, and only a small portion of those are released to te public.

2. If they were all somehow compiled into one pack, the vast majority would be utter crap.

3. Think of the time it would take to collect all the maps.

I've a feeling the MotW crew might release a mappack at the end of this year, containing all the maps that won MotW. Would be a good alternative to your "Ultamite mappack".

Would be good for server runners. Some of the maps could be balanced unfairly though.

I think the closest thing to an ultimate map pack would be this one which currently has 891 maps and is over 100 MB in size.

that would be awesome... not on my server though lol... Unless you like, supercompress them, I know there are FAR more than 891 custom maps.

ty for feedback. xtishereb, thanks for great dl site. I'm going to put up a server soon, and I want to see the best of the underground soldatmaps surface. We'll see these are as good as what I'm cooking up right now though.... (evil laughter).....

I have about 2500 maps in my collection  ;D
- all maps from SML
- all maps from Soldat Directory
- most maps from this SoldatForums
- some maps from previus SoldatForums
- and lots of maps from other sources...
about 700 mb so far...

However most of them are really very low quality: mapbugs log generated by MPA is about 4000 lines...

How/What does MPA consider a mapbug?

1. I think all non-default maps are not well known.
2. You can find list of mapbugs (warnings) in MPA help file... Well it doesn't analyze polygon structure for polybugs or detect overstretched texture. But if map has much more serious defects that MPA can find it usually means that it's a crappy map...
