Frustrated.
« on: April 04, 2007, 04:06:39 pm »
Okay, the server thing is driving me completely insane. First, it works, then it doesn't, then it does, then it doesn't, and now, it STILL doesn't.

I don't know why it is being retarded, I've followed several different guides to get the bloody thing working right.

Anyways, I'm running on windows XP. I've gotten a static IP, and I've been using the Dedicated Server that came with Soldat. Eventually I tried the so called Stand Alone one, and no, I did not put it in the Soldat directory.

That's following the port forwarding generic guide. It worked once, but now no one including me can get into my server. Even the guide for my specific model number looks off, because the Linksys page is different. I do have the "Block WAN Request: Disabled", so that's not the problem either.

I'm so disoriented from all the guides I've tried, I'm on the verge of giving up. Cookies for anyone that can save me from insanity. [retard]

Linksys routers have allways been a piece of shit to me. I know a lot of people having the same problem as you that also have Linksys routers. Honestly, they suck.

I recommend getting a new router that isn't a Linksys, like a Netgear or D-Link
There are other worlds than these

I have a Linksys router, and I've never had problems with it. (WRT54GS)

It all comes down to setting it up properly. If you think it will help, I can post my configuration.

I have a BEFSR41 Version 2. But yes, posting your configuration might help. Thanks a bunch.  :D

These are the most relevant settings from my router, and my computer itself.

These settings are guaranteed to work; ran my server overnight and had it full with 8 people. I don't have DMZ enabled.

Thankyou!!! Now, to find out if Linksys BEFSR41v2 is compatible at all. =P

Edit: I failed the port settings test. But, as I went to shut down the server, I saw someone was logged in. So, I tried to join the game, which didn't work unfortunately. I'll post screenshots of my settings in a bit.

Edit2: Okay. Here are some screenies of what I've got setup.

In all the guides I've seen, I never saw a "113" mentioned in the forwarding part. But, I added it for the hell of it.  [retard]

113 isn't for Soldat, it's for my IRC client; hence why I drew a red box around the ones relevant to Soldat.

As for why you cannot join still, I don't know.

What you need to do is verify that:

1) The server is set to run on port 23073
2) If the server and soldat are run on the same computer, start the server before the client
3) Re-verify all your router settings.

When the server is set up properly, you should be able to join it from:
1) 127.0.0.1 on the computer hosting it,
2) from 192.168.1.102 from any other computer on your network ( if you cannot join at this point, that means the computer itself is firewalling connections; adjust firewall settings)
3) From your external IP

Are you sure you're forwarding UDP and not just TCP?

Could it have anything to do with my ISP? Internet wouldn't work today and they said something about the router and the modem being out of sync, and that it wasn't meant to have a static IP. I've got Cox High Speed Internet.

I've gotten another router now, the other one was about five years old.

Yes, most likely they do not allow you to choose a static WAN IP; which means on this page change it to "Obtain an IP address automatically" (Note: this has nothing to do with your -computer- having a static IP; that is in your LAN):

Ah, I thought I needed a static IP to host a server? Can't check right now, posting from my PSP... Very slowly, to my annoyance. xD

You do know the server has to be running while you start the test, right? xD

YES. I passed all but the remote admin, which I don't think is needed. I'm going to go see if it works now, and if it doesn't, I'm going to become a stalker, and call myself "Gummy Bear". =(

Edit: .............Well...... My name isn't Gummy Bear!!!! I managed to log into my own server. Time to get some buddies to test it with.
