Prince of Persia: Rival Swords
« on: April 20, 2007, 08:08:05 pm »
Well I have been itching to rent a new Wii game ever since I had so much fun with Excite Truck. Lucky me, we get a free rental coupon in the mail! I get to the store and seeing as Wii Play is rented out, I already rented Excite Truck and I don't feel like a fps game I decide on Prince of Persia: Rival Swords. Turns out the coupon is not valid  with the next-gen consoles, lame right? Well I just went ahead and paid the $7 for the game(5 day rental... not that bad a deal) So I get Wii sports out of my console and pop in that sleek black disc. Boom! Some nice graphics introduce you to the Prince of Persia and give you a little history, for the people like me who never met him. :P You start out learning all the moves, standard tutorial stuff: run, jump, climb this, jump to that, ect. Once you get through that its time to kill! The game shows you how to do a sneak attack, very cool.  After you kill this guy and head to the next you can get a second weapon. Let me just say I loved the combat controls with this game. Wiimote for right hand, nunckuck for left, with a little "A" button jumping for good measure, looks cool and its useful! Now I got into this game for a while, running around the city, jumping from ledge to ledge and killing people while they were standing around.  Fun part aside lets get to the part people love to read about... crappy features in the game. So far I only hate the save system, save spots are few and far between. One accident on a ledge and you got to spend 5 minutes getting back to where you were, not that fun. Other then that I didn't hate anything, the camera was weird, seemed to be useful at some points but annoying at others, overall I liked the feel of it though.  For you graphics losers, the prince doesn't have the most seamless body around, but I spent more time looking around my environment for the next place to jump or next baddy to run my blades through. The city doesn't look to bad in my opinion, but still you are not in one place for very long so if you don't like the way something looks; don't worry you won't see it for very long. For you control junkies, this game has great controls, though in some ways they resemble Twilight Princess, still only so many buttons on a Wiimote. :D

Summary so far: If you are into the third person, sword slinging games, you should be pleased with this game. Just remember to be careful on the ledges...

I'll edit this as I progress in the game.

I have bad memories with sands of time (Hoooah-AAAAHHHHGGGH), and I don't have a nintendo wii console.
I might play this in a few years though, sounds interesting.

I'm so glad I have a wii to play with all night long!

The wifi usb connector is a scam, you don't need it to use the ds or the wii.

Speaking of WII games, I have WWII games to compare (pun intended)

Metal of honor Vanguard and Call of Duty 3

MOH Controls
The obvious are pointing with the wiimote, pressing the trigger button to shoot and some similar Stand/Crouch control much like L1+L2 on the ps2 used to be, The Positives of the controls is one really useful one, If you Aim Down sights and use the analoge on the nunchuck, you lean instead of move, you can pop up down left or right, or any varient of that, you can barely peek around the corner or you could expose half your body tryign to get that last nazi with the extremely sensitive (in a very good way) nunchuck, The downfall of this is you can't move while aiming down sights, it is well worth it. The controls are extremely precise, headshots are encouraged by the metal system (explain later) and easy enough to do, This game's controls may surpass the precision of a mouse+keyboard. The nunchuck Gestures are a bit too high in number, swinging it one way reloads and the other does a 180, often you do both by mistake and it can get annoying, so just go over to the options and turn some of the crappy ones off (i recommend taking the stand and crouch gestures off, they suck because the 2 buttons on the nunchuck are way more accessable and natural)

COD 3 Controls
Same thing - lean feature, Some people say it is more responsive, I didn't think so, This game is the one that should have had the lean feature, because this is way more difficult.

MOH Graphics
Being a new system is no excuse for the graphics on this, They look dull and gray, on top of that the modeling sucks, the cinematics are stupid and the story is greatly affected by the stupid looking characters and the lighting effects don't match up to what is capable on the wii. Actually, NONE of the graphics match what is capable on the wii. All the Crates look exactly the same and most things are just dull blocks. The graphics don't really degrade the gameplay, they just aren't any good for impressing your friends.
Example
COD 3 Graphics
These graphics are way better, even though it still doesn't quite look up to par, There are so many effects to see (explosions and lighting and modeling) that it is very forgivable, it is less blocky then MOH and a lot more pleasant to the eye, a good example of this game would be This, this is what it looks like with almost no effects But know that in most places, it is chaotic and has a lot more effects for your viewing pleasure

MOH Gameplay
It is very simple, you are an airborne and you parachute down to a map and kill nazis. When you kill nazis well you get a metal for headshots in that level, if you survive without having to restart because you die you get a metal, and for shooting nazis with their weapons and your weapons you get points. As weapons go, this game is really limited, Bar, Tompson, M1 garand, Kar98K, mp40, Stg44. That and some annoying missions where you need to use a bazooka on some tanks, and if you want you can commandeer a MG42, but it has this gay recoil thing and you never use it to take out "Krauts in the open" Soldat has more guns that that!

COD 3
In this you have shooting, there is also driving a jeep/transport thingy a tank, and shooting on top of a jeep/transportthingy and shooting with the tank. I expected the tank mission to be garbage but it is enjoyable, I was hoping for some more strategy when it came to the tanks, for example, shooting it in the back should kill the tank noticably quicker, maybe even 1hit kill, while not exposing yourself to a broadside. There is also crap where you put a bunch of bombs on a bunch of artillary peices, but the nunchuck doesn't register all the movements, pretty dumb/annoying.

MOH multiplayer
No online
4 Player split screen
If your friends have never used fps controls similar to this on the wii before, then they will suck for about a half hour
No turning off gestures for multiplayer
Some of the maps are rushed and crappy (really dark and way too lame) but some are ok (ahem, barn)

COD3 Multiplayer

Ok got to play for an hour or so until I got annoyed out the room.(Not by the game :P) I must say I take great pleasure in finding the ways that are set out for sneak attacks. Though its not as quick as my usual style of run in, get everything to attack me, and unleash hell upon the mash of enemies. Also I ran into more save points then before so I am happy with that.  I really think I have fallen in love with this game. Depending on how far I get before I have to return the game this may be my next game purchase!

And 4yo

What are the missions like in MOH, capture a certain objective or just whipe everyone out to secure an area?

I heard that Rival Swords is just a poorly botched port of The Two Thrones. Ubisoft loves to do that...

Actually i ment to talk about that.

In MOH you start every chapter parachuting down to some kind of landing zone, where you procede to clear out the village/town/city/swamp. That's pretty much it, no special operations. It is pretty bland singleplayer, luckly you can blow right through easy mode in 3 hours.

Stick with call of duty †.
