Bout to give up....
« on: April 13, 2007, 02:10:31 pm »
well i really wanted and tried makin an 24/7 Trenchwar server... I did and managed to get maps online to play.. Got the same ppl joining again which is good!
But the problem is all these freekin errors!
Too many files open
Random spawning on mapchange
New map doesn't start at all and timer keeps at 00:00
Scripts that dun work and little support at the forum (no offense)
And lots more! (tho a great and wikked game!)

I maybe sound a bit foolish but it freeks me out!
I really need someone to get into the server and hav a look how i configured everything i think, or at least need some support on here!

The map error is caused by a corrupt map list; usually this means one or more lines has a space after the map name, if running under linux the capitalization is incorrect, or there are blank lines at the end of the file.

Send me a list of every map you have, and send me your mapslist.txt, and I'll check it for problems.

Also, what OS are you running the server off of?

Actually my servers also have the occasional mapbug..
Error could not load maps (Too many files open), and then 10 in a row in 2 seconds.. its not caused by a wrong maplist but by some weird bug.
it used to be way worse but not the problem usually fixes itself in a few seconds.

the random spawning indeed sucks. it seems as if the first one to join after a mapchange gets spawned at the spawn of previous map (which could be anywhere in the current map)

timer problem: never had that.. u sure you put loop_maps=1 (or something) in the soldat.ini of the server?

hey chris running it on windows xp here.. here´s the mapslist.txt

If you could also give me a list of physically available maps, that would also help. You can do this by running the following command:

Code: [Select]
cmd /k cd c:\soldat\maps & dir /b tw*.PMS > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\maplist.txt", changing c:\soldat\maps to reflect where you have the server installed. This will put a file on your desktop named maplist.txt

Most likely, at this point the cause is that whatever map this happens on is either: Readonly, or non-existant. If you want to verify yourself that every map exists, check the permissions on every map to ensure none of them are readonly.

Actually my servers also have the occasional mapbug..

It's not really a bug (except for the message: the message is completely wrong); a properly configured server will never experience this bug. As above, the most likely cause once mapslist.txt is ruled out is the map has incorrect permissions (read-only, if under linux not owned by the user running the server, etc), or it is nonexistant (under linux, case-sensitive).

hey chris! thnx for the support already!
i checked all the files on permissions and none of them hav a read-only..
bout the maplist thing.. it was already in my c:/soldat/
maybe i did  sth wrong by running the maplist instead of the mapslist..
the server has been running all night and i didnt discovered any errors yet so thnx a lot!
maybe i'll  be back later!

Soldat only uses mapslist.txt; my little command would make a file called maplist.txt, on your desktop, with every TW map you have; this was to check that entries in mapslist.txt were, in fact, correct.

b00 i still got minor map change errors now. I tested it but only with players on the server it causes errors when map changes.  Any more tips?
that command only doens't create a maplist.txt

If you can't get his command to work, just open your maps folder in Explorer, change the view to "list" mode, make it fullscreen, and take a screenshot (and attach that to a post here)

If you find that map to crash a lot, it's possible that map either: has read-only permissions, has become corrupted somehow, or it is open by another process in an exclusive mode.
