Grindhouse
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:26:17 pm »
Anyone seen this? I just did, and personally I think it was the best Tarantino movie (but I hate his movies so it isn't saying much).

This is all in terms of the 70's grindhouse films that it was reminiscent of. I mostly watch just exploitation films, so I was curious how this would turn out. I wasn't expecting much.

Planet Terror was better in the sense of script and scenery, but was lacking a lot in dialogue and some of the action. However, I enjoyed this section a bit more, but it still wasn't great.

Death Proof, for the first half, beat out Planet Terror in cinematography, hands down. The dialogue was terrible and after half was over, it turned into just a regular Tarantino movie. Tarantino's "homage" I always consider just stealing, but this movie was a but more straight forward in such things and was alright.

I wish Eli Roth's little preview "Thanksgiving" was made instead of Death Proof. It looked much better in terms of capturing the mood of the movies. The two shown fell short. I wasn't disappointed, I thought it was going to be worse, but it still didn't come close to want they are imitating.

So, just go rent or buy a real exploitation flick, it'll be worth it.

On IMDB, it shows Rodriguez is making it.

The movie isn't that great, especially if you really are trying to get the true exploitation experience. A lot of the shit and effects you'd never see and it ruins a lot of the mood. Plus, at points its just stupid (not good stupid).

If you don't want grindhouse flicks, you probably won't (well you can't) see a the lack, but it is.

I saw this movie the other day, I love it. Funny thing was, there were idiots that left the theatre after Planet Terror was done 'cause they thought the movie was over, lol @ dumbasses

I watched it by myself with six other people in the theater. I enjoyed Planet Terror more than Death Proof just because Death Proof had the most boring moments ever. But one thing I did like was the "tire-to-face" scene. It was awesome.

I saw it twice, loved every second of it. Death Proof had a lot of useless conversation, but it really succeeded in making you hate one group of people and actually care about the other group.

Overall, you're really missing out if you haven't seen this movie yet. Also, Smegma, how can you not like Quentin Tarantino; Pulp Fiction??? Reservoir Dogs??? Kill Bill???  :(

I wish this movie did better in the box office, because then the possibility of a sequel would be, well, possible.

Because Tarantino has a lot of money, and little ideas. He makes an "homage" and does it worse than the original. He should just leave well alone, but he won't. You see, you thought Death Proof was boring because of the pacing, but if you've ever seen a movie like it, thats how the pacing was. Tarantino got the pacing well, but half way through it fell apart and just turned into another one of his movies.

He failed at the whole character part, plus, in what grindhouse movie are you suppose to love and hate because of character development?

You've got a point, the second (and stronger) half of Death Proof had nothing to do with Grindhouse movies (neither did the first half, though :D). On the other hand, it was a really quality movie in its own right.

Planet Terror was the better homage, but as quality movies they were both really good and I plan to watch the entire movie for a third time when it comes out on DVD. Basically, if you haven't seen the movie, go do so.

Oh by the way, why is your user name "Smegma"? Kind of odd considering... well, you know...

I think Tarantino, for the first half, was better than Planet Terror, but if only he kept it like that I would have enjoyed it more. Planet Terror was lacking much more in almost every aspect, but I enjoyed it more because as a whole it was better.
