dm/inf? Unknown shrine
« on: April 07, 2007, 11:23:52 pm »
Short story:

In the far past, there was a pharaoh burried here in this tomb but recently strange things have been happening, like the rising of this area into the sky. Dare you take on the challenge in finding out whats behind these mysteries? (well, there really isn't an mystery but whatever...) Some say the pharaoh has risen again once told in ancient myths. It has been said that when the tomb has been disturbed, the pharaoh shall rise again (literally) and will once again have great magical power.

Yah I know, crummy "story" but you get the jist of it. I just needed a reason for having floating islands. I will add clouds and make it look all perty later but for now, I have some questions before I continue progress.

First, screenshots:

There will be an overview added later.

Questions:

1. Should there, or should there not be jet? If not, I'll still make a way to get into the upper shrine.

2. Should there be the pits?

3. Should anything be different about the islands? If so, what...

4. Well one last question... Should this be a ctf, inf, htf etc...?

Any other changes I should add, please comment. I'm free to ideas and criticism.

*pharaoh*

That blue cross does not fit at all... :P Very nice background colors for the chosen texture. This should definitely not be DM.

There will be an overview added later.
No worries, ..::HHH::..

Please make this a zombie-infiltration; it would be splendid (but if you want to do that, I would probably revise the bunker on the larger boulder). Have very little jet fuel. Spawn in the bottom-right shack and fight through hordes of Boogie Men as you experience treacherous KZ-style climbing in getting up those columns (riddle some spikes around their bottoms :D), while struggling to get to the flag in the very top-right of the tower before finally returning to base. The cramped terrain is perfect for fragging zombies; just add more width to the tower leftwards so you have a lot of work to do.

Maintain the gap between the boulder and the tower, so you have to time your puny jet fuel nearly perfectly just to get across. Put some very, very small ledges on the bottom-right side of the tower. Perhaps add a third boulder to make the journey longer.

See chakapoko maker's three zombie Infs. to get a feel of the style:
inf_Cannibal2
inf_Meatball (the waterfall shows what kinds of ledges I'm talking about to strap onto the tower's southeastern side)
inf_Sprout

He portrays the mode brilliantly. It would be even crazier if you, like chakapoko maker's work above, forced Alpha to continue even deeper into the tower's belly in order to cap.

Keron Cyst, thanks for the ideas. I'll probably use these ;). Sounds good as a zombie infiltration.

One question though... Where is the partial modification for the zombie thing? I'm assuming it's a partial mod. I've looked for it in the mod threads and search and find no sign of it. It would be nice to be able to test this as a zombie map as I go along. Thanks for the input. I believe I should keep the map bright as it is.

I could make this into two seperate gamemodes, one being zombie and one being normal or something. If I did make two seperate ones, the normal one would have it so that you would have to go deep into the tomb to get the flag and it would be infiltration or something. Of course both modes would be waypointed by me :).

//off topic// For the moment, if anyone wants me to waypoint a map of their's, I would be willing to. I'm at a standstill currently with my mapmaking...soo yeah. Just pm or post or whatever and I'll see what I can do. //off topic//

(just on the side; this would be best played in realistic mode for the most part. Also, the big empty space in the bridge area does opt for a sprayfest, so this would be a good zombie map...)

It's not a partial mod; the maps' format does the trick entirely. Download the three maps, join Alpha on any, maybe put in a few Alpha bots alongside, and type /addbot2 Boogie Man, then //, Enter, //, Enter, until you get as many as you can handle.

Sorry for this double posting and reviving this thread but I have several things I want to discuss a bit.

First of all, something simple; I couldn't really get the "addbot" thing to work.

Second of all, I don't know what to really do with this map now... I have come to a halt in mapmaking currently as I think I've said somewhere before. I would have this map done and waypointed by now, and that other map from the map junkyard waypointed but now I have no inspiration. I don't really have a want to do this at the moment. I blame my going to mods and playing those. That's how one of my other friends went down... I like the mods and they are awesome...

Well I guess I might wait to see what happens. If version 1.4 comes soon enough, my inspiration might jump back into gear but if not, this might take me a while to dig myself out of ;). I mainly blame empathy. I have been very empathetic recently and it's horrible. It makes me really not care about anything and I just do what I want etc... I also blame school, but that's just my empathy kicking in.

Cya around.

First of all, something simple; I couldn't really get the "addbot" thing to work.

It's a simple admin command that you type in at any point while playing the game. You do not need to be on-line to do this, but you must be careful to avoid typing the command in team chat, else it will no work. Just start up a game in any mode as normal and type:

/addbot2 Boogie Man

Change that "2" to a "1" and the bot name to add bots to the Alpha team.

You really should follow through with Keron Cyst's advice. This could be a great looking and playing map. You're just encouraging your own empathy by letting things rot unfinished. You'll begin to feel much better completely projects as you won't have it nagging at you languishing incomplete, and there is a real sense of achievement in seeing something through the end.

Well look, I'm not showing empathy due to this unaccomplished map. It's only that school is dragging me down. It's only temporary though. Just at the moment, I feel as though I have run a tiring race (that race being school) and now, towards the end of the year, it just gets harder to try and finish this race. It happened to me last year too...always on that final quarter... That's when things get a bit iffy with school work and everything. Soon as summer comes around and I become all active outside of school, I'll feel all none empathetic again (won't have to bother with never-ending school work again until next school year).

Yup.

PS. Actually, the main stream of my empathy has passed lol. Still, school work is never-ending and every day is a new homework assignment in Math. Other classes included. Just wait till summer. And thanks for the ideas all of you. I appreciate them.

One more thing...why am I replying to this post? I'm suppose to be "taking a break" from this, but that sounds lame. Yeah, umm well... goodbye for now?

Sorry for super bump and double post, but would someone do something with this if I threw it into the "map dump" section? I don't know if I want to waypoint this, and I made that I didn't waypoint it, I'd feel very odd. Plus, I have No Clue how to finish this... It's getting on my nerves.

Umm, *gulp* this is the second time I have super bumped this...crap. Hope it's alright with you folks...
