==>Avatar and Signature<==
« on: May 07, 2007, 04:40:16 pm »
Hi all,
I have a "noob-question" regarding your avatars and signatures...
How you can make the backround in your avatars/signatures transparent?...I tried it out, but i still don´t know how it works! :(
So it would be nice if you could explane it to me :)

PS: And how you can make an animation as avatar? (I tried it with a self-created "gif" picture but it didn´t work)
<------------ I tried it with this one

wrong section but ok, In photoshop you select what you want to be transparent and hit delete, this could take a while, in Gimp you either start with a transparent background and work on it, or you erase to transparency with the eraser, i don't know how to do it in paint.

I suggested he post it here because it is more of a "how do I make transparent images and animated gifs?" instead of "can someone make me a signature/avatar?"

It should be useful to people in the future looking to do transparency/animation.

you need a program like Phothoshop or GIMP or whatever to make transparent images.
For making animated avatars I would use Flash.

I could make you an animated avatar as long as its nothing too complicated ;)

Yes i know i´ve got gimp, and i tried it out before with a green backround but it didn´t work. Also i tried it with a white background but it didn´t work either (both pics were "gif" files).
But "a-4-year-old" gave me the tip i needed to know...

I just decided to make a nice text file that explains how to do simple tasks like using layers and fonts and making animations with the gimp, if i can find it ill edit this post.

I PMed you back, the .txt needs some review but it covers some advanced stuff, The more basic should probably have pictures so it is very clear to understand.

Usually, when you save something as a .gif, so long as there is a dominant background color, that color will be negated and replaced with the color behind it.  Though, if you're doing something like changing it from .jpg to .gif format, you're going to get color distortion that screws it up.  Just keep trying.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

The only thing i did was use the eliptical selection to make a selection around his face, with the "floating section" in the layers window, you can click New layer, (which should always be set to transparency anyway) to make the rest of what was not selected transparent, then you can erase to transparency with the eraser. Keep in mind that when you make a new image, you can select the background to be transparent, then not have this problem at all.

Yeah, i know...I tried it like this:

1st:  I made a new image and selected the transparency layer at first
2nd: I draw this stupid face on the transparent background and fill the face with some colors
3rd:  I saved this picture as "gif" AND also as "png" [there are some settings you can change when you save it as "png" (I took the default settings!)]

Then i uploaded it here in the forums and i get this dumb black background!
So i don´t know what I exactly did wrong!
