DirectX problem
« on: May 13, 2007, 04:20:58 am »
I just got an old laptop off of my sister. It has all the right stuff to play soldat on it. But when I click OK a message comes up saying that I need to install directX 8.0. I have installed it and it says that it is version 8.0. I have also re instaled/downloaded soldat a few times. Any help? :'(

If rebooting didn't work then you might need a newer DirectX version. Soldat might say that it needs '8.0' but in fact it needs '8.0c' for example and you could have '8.0b'. The version numbers are made up here, I don't know if '8.0c' exists, but you get what I mean.

No it didnt work and I dont think that this laptop could handle 9.0 memory wise. By the way ive got the latest directx 8.

Alright then, try playing with the compatibility and video settings using the config.exe program included in Soldat.

I think you'll have to wait until 1.4.1 is released then.
As a last resort you might have your colors set to 24 bit. try setting them to 16 or 32 bit in your control panel.
For the rest i'm out of suggestions :(.

Soldat needs at least the latest DirectX8.1, not 8.0. Installing 9.0 shouldn't be a problem either, it's not that large, and it takes up no additional RAM.
