stuff i found recently
« on: May 21, 2007, 04:59:06 am »
As some of you might already know, i live in finnish lapland. My home town and the areas around it were a battlezone during the lapland war, therefor there is alot of items and old trenches etc. in the forests around here. Every summer i like to do little trips in the wild to search for this kind of stuff. During spring the water is kept low in the lakes by Hydroelectricity plants to prevent flooding, this reveals old areas that have been underwater since the dams where build. This spring i went to search a new area and i found a old machinegun nest (pics below). This is more than likely finnish, however germans had their defences here too (2 bunkers left, one as a museum). I also found machinegun ammo box. There has been a big cannon shell and piece of german helmet around when i was a kid, however i could not find them. If anyone else has found stuff like this, please do share.

PS: the machinegun nest has been underwater for atleast 40-50 years (visible few weeks each spring). So the rocks have been moved by ice, and the old trench behind it has started to fade away.

PPS: russian positions were on the opposite side of the lake, i am going to search this area during summer.
