can't connect to my soldat server
« on: June 14, 2007, 01:02:47 am »
I've had this problem now for few versions... but now that I want to start scripting I have even more need to join my own server to test it - however I can't.
It says 99999 as the ping to my server (??? in older versions) and it just gets stuck on "Requesting Game..."

My router is forwarding all the necessary ports - 23073-23083 TCP and UDP
Other people can join my dedicated server.  127.0.0.1 23073 doesn't work either.  My server shows up in the lobby but it just can't connect.

Tell me PLZ if there's anything that can cause this!

If you can't connect with 127.0.0.1, then you have some issues considering thats the loopback address. What kind of firewalls are you running? What is your network setup like?

I lied - 127.0.0.1 works - sry about that.  And I don't even need to type the password...
Anyways, it doesn't work through the lobby even from another computer hooked up to the same router.  I even tried running it through LAN - it doesn't show up on the lobby and typing in the host's local IP directly doesn't work either.

Check firewalls; windows firewall and any third party ones such as zone alarm.

Also, make sure that you use the LAN IP to join a LAN game. From there, once you are able to join via LAN, you need to forward ports.

no nothing works :[
ports that are forwarded are TCP and UDP 23073-23083 - no firewalls running on my computer.
I can join other servers just not my own (except for 127.0.0.1).  Any idea?

If you can't join over LAN, then there is a firewall somewhere, whether you know about it or not.

Try forwarding ports 23073-23196, and see if that works.

Try forwarding ports 23073-23196, and see if that works.

23196 is the ASE port, and is not needed for connectivity. None of the ports in the range between are used either, so forwarding such a large range is useless.

ok here's the latest spiel:
I used enesce's server tester and came up with this:
Ping, Request, Join tests all worked (UDP 23073)
ASE also worked (UDP 23196)
Remote Administration (TCP 23073) and Map Download Connections (TCP 23083) both FAILED!

Could my NAT have anything to do with that?  And if so, how can I check it?
I'm pretty much desperate now...

TCP failed both times... are you sure that you have both UPD and TCP forwarded in the required port ranges?

yup!  It's not even funny - this is pathetic
I just went to a friend's house w/ my laptop and I couldn't join my own dedicated that I made there over their internet.  It showed up in lobby but with ping 99999 and unjoinable - same symptoms it shows at my home.

Here's a pic of my router page - please tell me something's wrong!
(102 is my main computer, 105 is the computer I use if I want to test from a different computer (doesn't work either)

You can't forward the same port to multiple computers.

i figured that and tested it without the 105 but it enesce's port forward script still gave me the same results:  remote admin and no map download don't work just like before (both are TCP's).
Any suggestions???

FIXED OMFG!!!
After two years!

It turned out somewhere on that long list of port forwards was another 23073 TCP forwarded to antoher address.  It took me this long to figure that out.  Now people can join my server (when it's up)

But i still can't join it through the lobby prolly because it uses the same port or something?  w.e  127.0.0.1 is fine - all's good now.

Ok, if you can do that, you need to turn off port forwarding for clients via the lobby in the soldat.ini. Find the entry "Dont_Forward=0" and change it to "1", and you should be able to access your server through the lobby.
