Well it's actually fairly hard to tell whats wrong, because the image is quite blurry.  I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you can't change the resolution even though you are registered.

The only thing I can personally suggest is to make sure that you actually are registered, as in you don't get the ad and all that. No, I don't think you're an idiot, but it's always best to make sure of the simple things first.

And be clearer on the problem, and exactly what happens.

The setup does not detect that you're registered. It's just a message.

that is because the forums scale the image to prevent it from distorting the page.  Right click on it and "View Image" if you're using Firefox, or download the attachment and open it locally.

It's just telling you that it requires registration.
Did you actually try to change it? Because it should change to whatever you choose.

I registered in early day 2004/4/17, so, anyone have the same problem?
By the way , in game, I have no problem with registration, I can play mp3, too.

Have you tried actually clicking on one of the other buttons to change the resolution. If you try to change the resolution and it pops up a little window that says something about that option only being available after registering, then there's something weird going on. However, what I think is happening is what mike said.

You're probably just seeing the little 'tool tip' that pops up when you hover over the buttons.

I've got the same problem here. It's stuck in 640x480 when I'd like it in 1280x1024. I can't change it, even though I just registered successfully.

Edit: If it makes a difference, I had the old Soldat 1.3.1 installed before updating to 1.4.1 and then buying the game. I had 4 mods installed - full modifications - and also several custom maps. I tried rerunning the registration program and rebooting, but there was no change. Yes, I'm sure that I'm registered because I can access the mp3 player and change my jet color.

Edit: Okay, took some screenies. Sorry about the white space around them, but it's a 640x480 pic in MSPaint, which starts out at a higher resolution. As you can see, I've changed my pants colors, jet colors, added a custom profile, etc. My 7600GS doesn't agree with this game, so it's running in video compatability mode. I seem to be missing a few features on the main screen, too. I'm registered - I skip the 10s countdown and the ad screen. I still have the register email with the code from Plimus.  Obviously, though, it's not working.

hmm, i thought registered players have their names in the bottom left of that last screenie.  Like, "This version is registered by:  Your Name"

Chayoss, do you run windows XP or higher? Maybe you are setting the compatibility mode to run only at 640x480 resolution.

When in compatability mode, the game can ONLY run at 640x480.

He's already said that he runs in compatability mode.

I've got to run it in compatibility mode because my AGP 7600 GS is an uncommon card and Soldat doesn't like it - it tells me that I have to have DX8 or greater installed, then crashes/quits to desktop.

You'll just have to deal with it or get a new card. Soldat will not run in any resolution except 640 x 480 in compatibility mode and there's nothing besides getting a new card that can be done to change this.

Well, I'm not getting a new card just for a game (save for Crysis). 1.3.1 ran fine with no problems, so what's the difference?

There were numerous changes and new features added that require certain features out of video cards; yours is either missing those features or there is a driver issue preventing them from working properly.

1.4.x compatability mode is basically the same as running 1.3.1 normally; it disables the new changes such as the ability to change resolution and view the minimap, among others.

You can try updating your video card drivers.
If you really don't want to change your card I can give you a refund.

Technically, there are some (slightly messy) workarounds; you can render everything to the primary buffer once, then you can pull up the underlying surface, and copy the memory directly to another surface from a texture, then use that texture to render later. It's a slight pain though.

Or you can pre-genenerate mini-maps using other methods, like using the WinAPI.

Or, you can take a huge FPS hit, and simply draw the minimap every frame.
