well i rly hate the m79, but hey, i used it when i started playing soldat back in 1.2.1
In small maps, the m79 is the number 1 weapon for almost all players, specially new ones, since its hard to avoid the damn things

Well, ppl think that m79 is "oh so hard to counter". But althrough i'm pretty good m79'er, i believe, most of good machine guns users easily kill me, binking the hell out of me and making the aiming much harder. Also, just keep your distance from the enemy, it's the basic rule when fighting against spas/m79/hkmp5/knife/saw :P

Ok, here's my two bits. I use autos and barret, and I can say I suck with the M79. I fire once, maybe get a hit, then get owned by a second guy with a steyr. When I am fighting one, yes of course sometimes you get killed in one hit, but most of the time you get a free kill scot-free. In all the M79 is a pretty uneffective weapon unless you are 1 v 1 with a person, and even then people with M79's tend to lose becuase in most situations there is a way to get in a position where you it is nearly impossible for them to hit you. The M79 pretty much isn't that special, I think it is one of the worse. People will always complain about the 1 hit guns, that's just life.

Yeah, because balances are cool. We should all talk about the balance of the M79 because we're in a weapon balance section and talk about balances because that's what we do... we balance.

Seriously though, the M79 doesn't really need any changes... okay, at close ranges it is pretty annoying, but on larger maps, just use the Ruger or AK and they'll be done like dinner.

anyone thought about the idea of adding some startup time to the m79. Then maybe decreasing the reload time a little bit just to compensate. I think the delay would turn alot of the newbies to other guns since it would make kamikaze rushes kinda harder.

yeah but then the M79 would sort of be like the law except weaker since the M79 doeant launch out its bullet like the law. I think we got to make the bullet slower in mid air. And it shouldn't launch to high.

The delay would kill the m79. One of the best things you can do with m79 is kill an enemy comming out from a tunnel/something, but you need to time it really well. Delay would make it nearly impossible. Also, enemy could just bink the hell out of you...

You wouldn't need to crouch on the ground to fire.

I F12 for a delay as always.

@Kryp -- go buy some skills. use /command to bring up the commands.

The only time the M79 is annoying, is when you're fighting someone with high ping.  That's when it becomes almost impossible to dodge.  Because it'll apear out of the middle of the air.  M79 does not need a fire delay, and I don't expect them to add one either.  It isn't that hard to dodge an m79, you just have to move differently.  Instead of jumping straight into the air like everyone else, try a back flip, try a prone, try rolling, just something different, and I promise you, you'll get hit by a lot less of those rushers.

All the fire delay and other restrictions on guns does not solve the problem IMO. I dunno about you, but actually like the way the 1.2.1. barrett was. Im more for lower restrictions on guns. Again, the key IMO is not to nerf other guns, but to power up the guns that are underpowered.

As for  my skills with the M79, I'm ok with it (I'm average with most guns, I don't specialize much). Sometimes I stink, sometimes I pwn everyone with it. If someone specializes in it, it quickly becomes overpowered. I would say the same with barrett and knife too (more knife and m79 than barrett though).
