Need a modder
« on: July 07, 2007, 07:25:45 pm »
Hey, well I have NEVER modded before and I was hoping to create a "DragonBall Z" Mod, using a trick I learned with the weapons.ini. I was wondering if someone would like to help me with a couple of things.

1. I need to know how I can mod my soldat, but leave it so I still can play the normal soldat.

2. I need someone to help me out with sounds, because I have no idea how to do that.

3. Is there a way to change the weapons available to each person, as in when you start the game you can choose to be: Trunks, Goku or Vegeta, and each one can only use say weapon slot 7 or 9. Like goku can only use Kamehameha and Vegeta uses Galick Gun.

1: You take all the files you need, in the same folders as the original soldat, and put them in a new folder in "Mods".

the tree will be:

Soldat
---------mods
------------------your mod

So I just open my Soldat directory, select everything and copy + paste to a folder in mods? so the tree is like:

Soldat
Mods
Folder < Name of my mod and I copy all the soldat stuff into this folder and then I can edit it and it wont affect my normal soldat. Is that right?

You don't need to copy everything, you can simply do like:

Soldat»Mods»YourMod»Weapons-gfx and put there all modded weapon graphics, Soldat»Mods»YourMod»Sfx and put there sounds. If there is no file in ythat directory, Soldat will use the default ones.

2.Write some more information?

3.Nope.
Edit: Well, it most prodably could be done by server scripting. But othr than that - no way.

For 2, I have absolutely no idea how to do any modding of sounds. I was thinking of having the character yell "Kamehameha" during the delay before fire, then a beam kind of sound for when its going through the air. However, I dont know how to get these sounds and I dont know how to mod sounds anyway.

Also I just thought of another question. How do I play my mod once I have created it? for example I have finished my weapons.ini part of my mod, and it is in Soldat>Mods>DBZ Mod, but how do I play it so I can test it?

Well, if you have any Windows older than Vista, you can rip sound from almost eveything by:
Volume Control»Properties»Recording Control
Select Stereo Mix, set volume to about 10%

And here ya go, you can record sound with the default Windows Sound Recorder. Just start the recording and then lau8nch the game\video\whatever you want to rip the sound from.

And after that, well, cut it, edit it or whatever till it sound good and then put it into Soldat»Mods»YourMod»Sfx with a correct name, like spas-fire.

I have now totally modded my Barret into Frieza's "Finger Beam" however I think I stuffed up in making the actual Weapon that the soldat holds. I'm pretty sure I need to make this smaller.

You pretty much have to. Weapon-gfx sprites are rarely larger than 20x5.
