SOLVED <<linear catapult>>
« on: July 05, 2006, 07:29:49 pm »
im making a map and im trying to make a working linear catapult that will fire mechs (soldats) into space by first speeding up then launching them diagonally up.

Heres the map and the catapult function:

the point is that the player drops, prones backwards at the inside bouncy poly and boosts out of the ship where the second bouncy poly shoots the player diagonally up.

the problem is: when the soldat comes to the second bouncy poly he stops.
how to make it go right? pls help.

I don't know how to help you, but that is a truly awesome idea and I hope it gets solved.

Test it and retest it 10 times. Multiple polys are very unstable and will only bounce you roughly 15% of the time, to say the least. The faster you smack into 'em the greater chance you have of rebounding, I think, but I'm no expert on the subject.

Ive tried something similar before but it took too many polygons although mine was a bit different, mine was intended to keep the soldat floating... it did kind of work but it wouldnt let me move :'(

It would also take way to many polygons to make your idea work effectively

Lower the bounce platform section a bit, so he falls onto it.

Vertical speed = bounce speed*(1.5+rand(1.5))

I remember that! That was so freaking awesome. Same with the gostek split at the pelvis. Numgun, could you please post the .pms file? I would indeed like to test that.

Hmmm, I have another idea, turn the arrows (the ground poly from B1 to B2) into ice, at B2 turn it into a ice ramp, players have to turbo crawl now.

nah, i want them to take off with a cool blast off.

it seems to work good when u do this: no proning, just run at the 1st bouncy and jump backwards at its middle then u should get good speed and sprint to the 2nd bouncer where it shoots u up.

but i want to make it thru proning technique.  :-\

Btw, the B polys got somewhere 20-26 polys in them, should i put more?

Mistercharles: thanks ill try that. TESTED

Vltava: Ok, ill send it to u once i get home. DONE

Also, do you guys know where i could get those light sceneries which ive seen on polyworks's old screens? DONE

Sort of. It became a multitype catapult with your idea.
Now u can either launch yourself into the upper route or the lower route!
(there are 2 ships facing eachother and some asteroids in middle)

Thanks alot!

You could use a differnt idea without the bouncy polys, you would make it icy so that you could prone and slide out

I'm planning to do another map but it will in earth's atmosphere.
something like:

a big sea where a the same battle ship is floating with its catapult and a shore with a heavy fortress where they have vertical launch pads in that base.

now i have to thing whether i make it a INF or CTF?

btw, i'll release this map with the ERA mod and seperatly in the CTF maps section after that.

Depends, is it Team A's goal to get inside the fortress of uberness? Or everyone just goes back and forth? I think its weird for a bunch of people defending a base to assault a in the middle of the ocean to leave the base just to attack a ship, I say INF.

I tested the map (space one, not the new idea.) as hosting in the public server and it got very positive feedback.
the map turned out awesome. ill post a screenie or two soon.
