DM_Scorched
« on: September 07, 2007, 05:57:20 pm »
K i was a bit bored, so i started screwing around with polyworks...

This is what turned out.

It's a little DM map, so it's not very big.
Kinda like Arena2.

This map does NOT support bots, because i suck at waypointing them...

So enjoy, hate or both. [retard]

And i'm also new to stretching textures, so i didn't try it here, fearing i might mess up.

Note: Tweaked some more...

Ver 1.0-
*had it's troubles...

Ver 1.1.0-
*removed the weird bridge.
*remade scenery.
*fixed various poly problems.

Ver 1.1.2-
*removed over-used scenery from previous Ver.
*failed attempt at waypointing.
*changed BG color to something less irritating.
*minor change to scenery.
*changed spawn points.

Ver 1.1.3-
*minor changes to scenery.
*upper-left island color brightened.
*name changed to DM_Scorched

Final version i guess then.
No more updates.

Now play, Play, PLAY!

The background is rather hurtful to the eyes, and the bridge is rather odd...

If you change the background, don't make it dark. Keep the brightness if that's what you want. Just, either choose a different color, or just mellow the current color down a bit. Blend it into the texture better.

While the layout is good, everything else doesn't fit or look right.

The BG color is good, but the sceneries and the colliders are a random mess. Some sceneries look very stretched out, have very little opacity, or just nearly invisible. But I like the placement of the sun and it's effects. Create lighting and shadows consistent with the sun to make it realistic.

Deleting every sceneries except the tree in the middle and the sun and adding sceneries that actually fit the texture is a good idea. As for the grasses and the bushes, try using veg_grasses and make it the color similar to the texture color.

Green grasses is unrecommended here, as a neutral-colored grass, like xt's grass would work great, as it can be dynamically colored accordingly.

Good luck.

I'v changed the scenery again. Now the place looks more desolate and scorched.

I'm also going to try waypointing it.

It's really boring, having to lure boogieman out of the caves, when i'm testing it.

Edit- Nevermind, too hard at the moment. I have to practice it sometime.

This looks pretty nice so far. I like the background change and scenery changes that you have made. Looks a lot nicer. You did the changes nicely. The top left-most boulder looks a bit too dark, at least the side pointing towards the sun. It could have just a little more light added.

I'll fix that in the next update.

Any other advices?

Try the map, and see what bugs you/anybody may find.

Looks good. I do think there is too much black though. You should let the light sine further on the walls.
I love the shape though ;)

I suggest you change it to Skorch with a k or maybe to go with Scorched. I rather like Skorch myself. Couldn't grab you a link, sorry for that. :'(
