Hi!
I've made this map for the TMS Mapping contest which should happen at next week. I was going to submit it to the contest when TMS crashs... You probably knows about it better than I know.

Since that day I've been making only little adjustments on the map. Today I decided to finish it and release the map.

It's a UFO themed map. The layout is quite different from the most of DM maps (it's more linear) and you can fall out the map. It's waypointed.

heh, this is a great map. Looks okay, 'cept it seems a little sharp on the edges, if you get what I mean. Like it's only 99% finished.

Nice job, though. :)

EDIT: Didn't notice this before, but the small aliens, or whatever they are, being sucked up in the beam of light.. They're just awesome. Really add's to the good in this map. Very nice!

Fûckîng nice!!! Great effects. These aliens being sucked by the beam are GREAT. Special effects are incredible. This map wins.

Wow. A very nice looking map, maverick! The atmosphere paints a great picture and gives a great sense of style to the map. The texture fits nicely and so do the colors I think. Those alien ships? Perfect! I think the only place that needs work is (as stated by echo) your edges of your polys. They seem too abrupt and pointy. You could always attempt to round *at least in some areas* so the Soldat doesn't a) snag or b) suddenly go near vertical.

I find the lack of contrast disturbing. As in, if I don't know where the ceiling / floor is, because it's just as dark as the background, it's going to suck. UFOs also seem weird. Layout would be nice for DM if the map would be closed in from the sides and the top, thus pushing the action towards the middle.

Well... Now I have to defend my map  :)

When I posted the test version of this map at the Brazilian soldat forums, one of the members commented about the polygon edges. He suggested me to make then more spherical, not too abrupt as they're. I thought to accept his suggestion but  I realized that I did these sharp edges because I wanted to give the feeling of non-stoned structures. If you see on wireframe mode, you will notice that even the edges at the middle of the platforms are sharped, with abrupt ends and agressive lines. I opted for keeping this aspect... Maybe I did the wrong choice  :-\

@Demonic (sorry I didn't understand very well about what you're talking)
If you're talking about the background colors, which are very close, I really don't think that it is a problem. The player can define where's  the ceiling or the floor easily.

About the map layout, I didn't agree with you at this point. I don't think that this map needs to be closed, first of all because I can't see Aliena as a closed map =\. And if it was, the action, as you've said, would be pushed to the middle of the map but too much in my opinion. I'd like to create a DM map which propicies ample flow of the players at all the map, and also divided two clearly areas for TM matches between Red and Blue. That's what I did.

I liked the way you wrote the map review. It was a consistent text and and you didn't do simple analysis. It will be good if you keep this project on. I think the mapping community needs things like this.

Btw, I didn't notice that invisible polygons flaw... lol. So I've updated the map :)

This is the best alien themed map I've ever seen.  Outstanding use of colors and scenery.  The Aliens under the spaceship are great, really stands them out.  The only thing I don't like about this map is that it might be slightly a little too big and some areas where you did the texture stretching is out of place.  Besides that, this map is just amazing.  This is definitely a five star rating. ;)
