Wraithlike's 2nd Mappack.
« on: January 12, 2007, 11:39:00 pm »
Okay folks, here it is. It has 5 maps, 2 Htf, 2 DM, and 1 Inf. I wanted to make maps for lesser played gametypes, because it helps motivate people to start playing them. I used a lot of people's sceneries for these maps, so here's a list of everyone I know I took them from, and if you wish to have me credit you for use of your scenery/texture just ask.

Thanks to: VirtualTT, Serial Killer, Avarax, iDante, mnp, Eagles Arrow/Out of Order, X-Tender, rir, Numgun, and most likely numerous others. I also got inspiration for the concept of Christmass from the movie Black Christmas, and the layout is based off of Vigg's style. Also, Con epts isn't meant to look like VTT's Magica, and Azteca is not meant to be a ripoff of Boxo's Htf_Pyramid.

Huge thanks to Anna for making Polyworks, and MM for making soldat. And thanks to Keron Cyst for giving me advice for waypointing Htf maps.

Only Harmoniums, and Azteca are waypointed. If anyone wants to do the others feel free.

Oh, and bonus points to anyone who knows what Harmoniums is based off of.

And Now for the maps!

Wow, concepts roxor by boxor, excellent work with the light tool...which leads me to my question. Can someone please post a tutorial on how to shade with the light tool. I know it has something to do with the depth map, but I can never figure out where to place the light sources to create the right effect.
Anyway...

htf_azteca:
Looks cool, the gameplay should be good assuming you placed the spawns well. The only thing I can complain about is the vegetation is a tad too bright.

htf_christmass:
I think Vig would be upset for using "his style", but I say pfft to him, looks good. Blood and christmas trees, interesting combo...I dun lyk that pentagram though, seems out of place.

concepts:
Excellent use of the light tool, nice crystals. However, the layout seems plain and I don't like that texture much.

Harmoniums:
I get no bonus points ;Q Anyway looks pretty nice. Not sure about the layout but the lighting effects are nice.

inf_neophyte:
Nice optics, I like the scenery in the background alot, creates a nice space feel. Layout is a tad bland, but I'll have to playtest it I guess...

Overall good work, now let's ask E_A if he wants a threesome!

UberMapPackOfExtraDoom O.o (Haha @ Keron, I said it before you :P)

The drop shadows on the first one look 3d as hell.
Concepts looks downright sexy.
I love it's visuals.
I pretty much like the layout of all of the maps.

Wtf, these maps are very cool. You're the greatest mapmaker I've ever seen.
My favourite is the azteca, but it still could be bigger. You could put more entrys in the top of the pyramide, so that the soldiers could pass through, and it would make the map a little more bigger

Man, maps like these make me want to quit mapping, because I know my maps don't even touch the surface of greatness that these do. My creativity is lacking...or else I guess I could have some pretty uber maps.

I love the blockiness of htf_Aztec and the fact that you can't exit the pyramid. Seems like it makes for a good htf. Also, the simple background haze is nice. Outside the pyramid, the vegetation is a bit bright.

Concepts seems to be rather simple in it's layout design, but in a decent sort of way. I love it's surrealism that it radiates. It's like a dreamy sort of world. I love that clock.

Altogether, throughout your maps, the asthetics are really nice and rival that of the "greater masterpieces" of Soldat mapness. As it comes down to gameplay, they seem simple and what you would need in a map. I really don't have any experience with htf maps, but those two seem fine to me.

Meh, well now I'll go and dream up map ideas to myself...

Edit:

Harmoniums does seem rather too simple :-\

Damn nice map pack Wraithlike.  I include some others into my list of what I find to be your best work.

To best honest, Harmoniums and Concepts aren't that great of maps.  The layouts for them are too simple and they color usage and whole theme for them are just weird.  The maps themselves are good, but just aren't my taste.  Not adding them to my archives.  As for the others, what I suggest is too try not to in the future to make the polygons on the edges so straight.  This can easily cause spraying and some problems, like map bugs and others.

I find htf_Christmass to just be an amazing map.  Nice layout and very Hold the Flag fitting.  I love the dark horror atmosphere, it so fits the map concept.  The game-play for it is very tactical like Viggoloniggo's htf_Saw.  Its like a similar idea, but much smaller and with a much darker theme.  Excellent job.

There are some things that I need to cover up with htf_Azteca.  First, I think the polygons, especially on the sides of the temple are too straight.  Make them slanted a little bit.  Nice layout and the grass and moss fits nicely with the texture.  I love it.  I'm also adding it to my archives as well.

I don't have much to say about inf_Neophyte.  All I can say is that it looks nice.  Don't have much to say about it though.

When I later have a better understanding of waypoints and if I ever get the chance, I could try to waypoint some of these maps for you.  Great maps deserve great waypoints. ;)
