Live Free or Die Hard
« on: December 04, 2007, 03:16:00 pm »
Yeah, I watched the movie. Apart from these awesome "explosions" moments, it just seemed a bit too unreal.

Hackers that are bent on getting money from a financial backup system that collects all of the financial data in one place? Doubtful.

The bald senior detective falling on the F-35 plane that hovered beneath him and still lives after the plane explodes? Very doubtful.

The last straw was that the black hat hackers rerouted all the natural gas to our heroes' location, thus making everything in that area explode.

Has anyone watched this movie and felt the same? Discuss.

They always show "hackers" as someone who types in a complicated looking terminal with like 5 keyboards and some giant lcd screens. I hate that in movies.

Also a lot of war movies suck.

I love hollywood hackers. And hollywood computers. Wouldn't it be great to have a huge pop-up say "YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN E-MAIL" every time you get an e-mail?

I liked the movie as indeed it is hollywood, you cant expect the movies they make to be realistic, so just have your imagination run wild for once in your life.

Bruce Willis should have died like 4 or 5 times in that movie. Also, the ending gunshot scene was great.

Blue-Ninja, you complain about this movie being unrealistic and then you explicitly state that you prefer Hentai over real women... this movie did not attempt to be realistic at all, just like about half of the Hollywood movies ever created.

It's an action movie.  Plot doesn't matter; all that matters is that they launched a freaking car at a helicopter.

EDIT: Oh, and the whole 18 wheeler/fighter jet/bridge scene.  That mattered too.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.

Too add one more thing... hollywood needs to stop giving tiny japs super-strenght... Damn near every jap in a movie can toss some 300 pound man across a room with one arm... I know its fake but... come on...

If you are wondering where I came from with this then watch how that tiny asain girl handles Bruce..

Yeah Hollywood doesn't seem to know what hacking is.... Their representation of a hacker is metaphorical at best.

For a good example see the film: Hackers.

You've got it all wrong, they shoot it, then it explodes. That's realistic ;D

Do you mean Hackers is a good example of how it's done right or wrong?

I mean it's a bad representation. As in... about as inaccurate as you can get. The film depicts an small underground society of hackers dressed in a post-punk style. They get around on roller skates and all carry laptops which they can plug into payphones in order to access the internet. When they hack they get a nice 3D-rendered interface of all of the directories and files they are accessing.

And they save the world or something...

23 is the best example I can think of in terms of representing it. Great movie too.
