[<o>] Brazilian CTF Mappack
« on: December 07, 2007, 10:20:05 pm »
Hi!

This pack is an old idea which I thought after the release of inf_cangaceiros and ctf_metropolev2. For who doesn't know, those maps were inspired by something relationed to my country. I really like maps which are based/inspired by real places and I always tried to work with themes like that.

My original idea was to create a huge pack with a great number of maps I've planned. The pack would have maps which were in some way inspired on Brazil.

Well... I 'll be probably stopping my work as a soldat mapper at the end of this year, so I decided to finish the minimal idea of this project before the stop: A pack with 6 different maps, which  should represent different regions in Brazil.

Here are the maps, all of them were inspired in some different region of Brazil and all of them were thought to be on "normal" CTF matches (they aren't R/S). As you can see, they reflect many moments of my "production" as mapper. Since my very realistic phase until now.

I will try to explain a little about every map. If I write something you don't understand it is my fault. XD

In alphabetical order:

Quote

ctf_Amazônia

This map is based on the Amazon forest. "Brazil = Jungle" is probably the most famous association after "Brazil = football" :D
This map was the fourth of the CTF series. I've decided to make this map in a different way which I often use to make a map. The polygon placement isn't so regular, and it has consequences in visuals. This map tries to combinate realistic and default elements of mapping... That's what I've trying to do on my last jobs.

ctf_Brasília

This map had been posted before. I've made an update for this pack, changing details like some sceneries. It's based on the Brazilian capital, the city of Brasília.
In this map the proposal was the mix of a simple layout and visual with 3d effects but which should be, at the same time, not too realistic.

ctf_Favela v2

This is another map which has been posted here before. It's relatively a small and fast map where the battle happens in a tipical favela (slum quarter) at Rio de Janeiro. This project started as a DM map which should use the theme of an old map by me (the original Dm_favela). After I've made the DM version I did the adaptation to a CTF. This map was inspired by the most famous brazilian map for CS (cs_rio) in all aspects; the theme of the map, the visual and the proposal of the gameplay (very close, with many obstacles, difficult to move etc).

ctf_Metropole v2

Another map which had been posted here before. Many people doesn't know but Metropole v2 were based and inspired by the City of São Paulo. It was also inspired by another brazilian CS map, de_sampa (same authors of cs_rio) from where I took most of the textures and sceneries. It was my biggest project and the top of my very, very realistic phase. I remember that when I was making this map i worked a lot in details, using many sceneries as possible etc... In this updated version I've reduced the size of the map but I decided to keep that realistic aspect unbronken.

ctf_Sertão

The idea for the visual of this map had been used for me on my first brazilian themed map, inf_cangaceiros. The battle in this map happens in a small town in the interior of North east region, which is a very dry and poor place. This map was especially made for this pack because I didn't like to adapt inf_cangcaeiros to a CTF version (as I've did with Favela v2) because Cangaceiros is a kind of unplayable map (it was part of a MOD project which I never keeped up).

ctf_Tchê

This map is based on the South region of Brazil. To be more specific, it was made based on pictures of the "serras gaúchas", state of Rio Grande do Sul. This region of the country were very influenced by the europeans, especially germans and italians. I've putted this context in this project, which was the last CTF map I've made for this pack. I've made it tottally simetric (just changing some points in both sides to make it not so mirrored) which is something I really don't like. In despite of this I liked the final result, especially because I didn't have to use many customs sceneries to create a coherent atmosphear.

[/color]

The pack has 2 additional non-ctf maps; the DM version of ctf_Favela v2 and inf_Cangaceiros.
I don't know if all the maps are good or not... I just hope you enjoy it. :)

The pack is not finisehd yet because the maps could have some changes if I decided to do. So, if you have any suggestion, any kind of opinion, you could post it here. I would like to receive good criticism about it...

Bye and sorry for my English...!

Tche and favola are my favourites... The major problems on ur maps are propably overscenering and visibility of ground. For example Sertao bridges looks like they are closed. But then they r open from one part which got no difference to rest of bridge with look... This same problem is also with Amazonia's trees... Those city maps aren't good, I like neither layouts nor look. The best thing in this map pack are that every map got a nice sky, they were beautiful. There are more good things but I think the bad things are more interesting.

I did some little changes in 3 maps (amazonia, sertao, tchê). The most "radical" changes were on ctf_sertão bridges and amazonia trees.

So, if it interest someone, check it. :)

Very nice pack. I had never known that you made Metropole v2. I have that randomly in my gianormous bunch of maps somewhere.. I must say that I like your maps a good deal. I like how you tend to attempt to make maps based off of certain areas for a feel of a more realistic map. Also, I envy your cloud scenery... I'ma go make my own now... Clouds have a nice effect on most any sort of map, as long as they look nice.
