Number of users I can host.
« on: December 16, 2007, 11:13:36 am »
Hello.

Preface: Going to host a Soldat server for my university. Cannot test this out now due to a ISP problem where I live.

Have a budget dsl package. Speedtest.net clocks me at 1.42 Mb/s down 0.47 Mb/s up during idle. Over a wireless connection, with possible packet loss, will not help. I have the hardware to run it, but not sure about this. Would like to know the number of people that could be reasonably hosted.

All people who connect will be around 32 kilometers/20 miles.

Thank you.

If you WEREN'T on wireless, I would say 10-12 at the most. You don't ever want to be near the minimum required per player, you need to allow for high bursts of traffic.

With wireless, people may have issues playing on your server, period, no matter the number of players.
