LOTR maps.
« on: December 29, 2007, 03:30:27 am »
Did someone make a Lord of the Rings-themed map?

If not, will it be possible to start a LOTR-themed mapping contest in both TMS and SML?

I got the trilogy for christmas, watched it, and still liked it. The visuals and the stunning locations were very inspiring.

There is Lord of the Rings: Total War, a full mod for Rome: Total War- Alexander. :D I've played an earlier version of the mod that's for Rome: Total War, and I'm getting the Alexander expansion pack so that I can play the full LOTR mod. I'd say it's a mod worth paying for, I know I am. I can't wait to play the campaign mode as those beardy Dwarfs :D

there isn't much to make...
probably an evil tower could be ripped or so, but it would look like any other map.

You guys all suck :P.

Haven't you folks ever played Helms Deep on Counter Strike? I don't mean to familiarize both games together, but it was the only FPS with a LOTR themed map that I know of.

I think a LOTR map would be pretty epic if done nice etc. If anyone has ever read the series (me), there are a lot of great ideas for maps in there. The movie is lacking a lot of good stuff, although that movies are still great. Tolkien was a genius... For instance, Sheelobs caverns could an excelent place to stage a map, with her webs as cave "caps" so as to provide sort of borders for the map so that gameplay remains in the cave.

Even, it could go so far as to have Sheelobs cave be one chunk of the map, then the next would be the tower in which Frodo is captured in. The map would be infiltration/ctf with one team playing as the Orcs, and another playing as Sam x4 to save Frodo. It could potential make a nice mission map, for survival mode, or just plain inf. I guess the Samwise Gamgee team would need a lot invisibility as Sam does have the ring in this part of the story.

Also, Minas Tirith could make a potentially good map as well. Helms deep, possibly the land of Mordor, Isengard, Fangorn forest...there are a good deal of nice map ideas. I just don't believe I have the ability to produce any of these ideas. Mainly, just pick a battle scene from any of the books and there you go.

The Mines of Moria would produce an excellent map easily. Lothorien....the list goes on.

I planned to do Minas Tirith for inf, in fact I designed it pretty accurately. Im going to finish it within this year, it isn't my primary project...
