Video Compression Options
« on: February 03, 2008, 12:50:40 pm »
I'm starting a thing where I'm recording specific fights and/or boss fights for SNES games and putting them on YouTube.  Mainly to get feedback and get better at it, but also to show the fights just for fun I guess.  Who knows, maybe if I get good enough, I'll start doing speedruns.  But anyway, my real question is, which of these should I record in to get the maximum compression while still maintaining a tolerable video quality.  I don't want to have ridiculous file sizes that I can't upload to YouTube, or that would take forever to do so.  My main system with Ubuntu is currently non-functional, so I dug up my older one with XP and decided to take up this hobby, seeing as how it already had the program I needed!

Compress to mpeg 4 rather than AVI, do that with an uncompressed and send it through a converter (I use super converter)

Youtube says that mp4 is the best for uploading to them.

Download and install the Xvid codec, that should then show up as an option in there

Aye, problem solved, I can now turn these into MP4.  Thanks you two.

I've gotten two videos uploaded and working.  Thanks again, I'm enjoying this.

Hah, I love Metroid. I wasted weeks of my life playing that. Weeks well spent.

You using old ROMS and a SNES emulator? That's what I use cause it's kinda hard to find vintage games like that nowadays.

I also own the original Super Metroid cartridge. :)  My cousins, uncle and I were huge Metroid fanatics back in the day.  The feeling of nostalgia I get from playing Super Metroid is so welcoming.

You can also use CamStudio (as I suggested in another thread) cause it compresses to many formats, but also compresses to .swf for easy upload and viewing on the web.
