Buying UT2004: Is it worth it?
« on: February 06, 2008, 07:16:08 pm »
I've been thinking about buying UT2004. I've played it at a friend's house and really enjoy it, but since UT3 came out i'm wondering how good UT2004's playerbase is. Is there a site/could you tell me how many people still play the game and if it's worth a buy?

It's still great, considering you need a REALLY good computer to run UT3.
But also download the mods for UT 2k4, those are what make it more worthwhile. Like Red Orchestra, possibly one of my all time Favourite games. Alas, I had to delete UT 2k4 off my Hard drive due to the fact that Was deleting crap that I wasn't using much.

And yes, definitely worth a buy.  I bought my copy of UT2004 almost 3 years ago, been enjoying it ever since.

As for UT3, I heard it was sort of a step backwards for the franchise and that it didn't offer anything new, except the hoverboard and more vehicles.  They got rid of Assault, Double Domination, Bombing Run, and all those smaller game modes from UT2004.

Don't know what you mean by that, but lets put it this way. Twice the soldat community and then some still Play 2k4.

Actually UT2k4 comes with its own legal no-CD patch, which is kind of like a nice thing for Epic to do, so if you can find a friend...

I love Unreal games. ... I'm currently trying to "acquire" Unreal Gold...

Yeah UT2004 is really fun... I have it but it's uninstalled... I have the 6 CD version... it's a b*tch to install  :P

They ran out of DVD versions on the day of release so I opted for CD instead... For some reason there were 2 manuals in my box  :D

Gameplay wise... UT2k4 is as fun as the original UT but also has the added depth of bombing run and onslaught

Bombing was always phail in my opinion, but I love onslaught so much. The bots in UT2k4 are pretty fun to play with too. And of course, UEdit = endless hours of fun.

I still play it occasionally, usually against bots. But if you like CS, there's a beta UT2k4 mod that's very similar to it, although the playerbase is extremely small right now. I love it though, it's a blast. The link's in my sig.
