Drivers...
« on: March 18, 2008, 05:47:34 pm »
So I got my new computer, works just fine now. I've been installing software and played some BF2 yesterday. It runs on the best settings very smoothly. But then I go to the ATI Catalyst control center for driver updates. I select my card from the list and install the driver. Now BF2 won't start up. I'm pretty sure it's the fault of the new driver.

I have no idea how to uninstall it. Can you help?

You need to be more specific.  What operating system are you using?  Is there a "rollback driver" option anywhere in your ATI Catalyst Control Center?  There should be one in the hardware manager if not.  Simply uninstall drivers (or "rollback") and reinstall.  Also, why did you bother updating drivers when everything was running so perfectly?  Sure it's good for other reasons perhaps, but I wouldn't have touched new drivers unless I was already experiencing poor performance.

My framerate nearly doubled in a stress test, it wasn't bad before.

You can uninstall through add/remove programs in the control panel and just install off the cd you had where everything was ok.

If he's using Linux: Why are you using Linux for gaming? O_O

If he's using Windows XP: control panel>display>settings>advanced>adapter>properties>driver>rollback driver

Oh Jesus I'm not using Linux... now where did you get that idea? Windows XP Home Edition of course. Not the 64-bit version.

And thanks, Mangled. I'll try that.

Well, anyways it didn't seem to work so I uninstalled and then reinstalled the whole thing. It works just fine now. Thanks for your help, people.

Did you ever find out what the cause of your computer failure was?

Yeah, I did. Actually it didn't matter that my friend didn't connect the 2x2 power, because it was me who made the first mistake. You see, I screwed the motherboard to the case with the wrong screws. When we attached the processor fan, the motherboard must've broke. My bad, literally. Eh, I feel really stupid.

Eventually my building attempts didn't cost us that much money. And got to join the LAN party I was talking about. All I had to do was to borrow a computer.
