Ability to search PM's
« on: March 25, 2008, 06:46:07 am »
Why the hell does SMF not have a PM searching feature?

I've got a few hundred PM's and there's something I just can't find.

Isn't the PM limit like 20-30 messages?

Screen:

(13 pages in inbox and 12 in outbox...)

If you PM with lot of people then it would be usefull. for me it's not that important 'cause I PM with ~4 persons.

You do know that there is a delete button... why keep over 50 messages and I highly doubt you need to keep all of them.

Some of them are just important and some less important have links, pics. It's good to keep 'em.

I have 60 messages, used to have a lot more but deleted all the useless ones, it's a lot easier to look for the stuff you need if you get rid of all the pointless stuff just sitting around in your inbox.

A search function would be excellent for the more frequent PM'ers though.

I guess it would be useful to have for those with a lot of PMs.  A lot of people wouldn't really use it though.

Delete them?

The only relevant ones are the first pages

If you need to be able to search your private messages, just enable the e-mail notification of new PMs (if you don't have it enabled already) and just search your mail inbox instead.

(this is what I do)

what? a retard
maybe if you have links in pms and keep those cloggers just for that, why not make a "favourites"/"soldat link bookmarks" function that would just help store relevant links/pics so you wouldn't have to browse through all of your worldly possessions?

I see.. but getting e-mails all the time is just annoying, really. In fact, I hate getting e-mails, and I haven't even gotten smited with spammail on my new one yet. I quite like the idea here that jrgp brought up. Like me, I have 221 PMs currently, and I don't really wanna delete any of them. Surely there are some of them that I will never check out again, but I actually like to go through some of them on dull days just to see if I forgot anything, you know?

Thanks, echo. I highly doubt there isn't a searching PM's add on for SMF, and if there isn't, it wouldn't take more than a half hour for someone like Flies or EH to code one. Maybe it's something you guys could consider.

Do you really get PMs so often that the e-mails would be annoying?

Well... yes, actually. I mean, it's not critical, but the feature would be a nice addition, me thinks.
