I don't regret learning trivial things in my schooling, it may not be necessary, but it also isn't necessary for people to buy ipods and fancy designer clothes, Everyday cloths are half the price and do the same job.
My point is, Learning things that you will never need isn't a bad thing. I do however think schools should teach students how to think clearly about things, Not what to think. I find it frustrating when i'm sitting in class and a teacher brings up a topic that clashes with my own definition/beliefs, and i ask them why they think that or why that is the only correct answer, and i never get a relative response, "I'm right because i'm a teacher." Is not a valid reason for forcing bullshit into my head.

Students NEED to be taught how to think, Logically or not, It's better to be able to think something through than to know random facts about life.
I don't need to know how many apples little jimmy can eat over a period of 7 hours, That's just stupid, I'm never going to need to know something like that. I will need to know how to approach a task methodically and logically, Which is something they only teach in the last year at my school.(Which is what i'm currently in.)
Lol, internets.

"I'm right because i'm a teacher."
teachers wouldn't use this word as a response, instead they explain to you WHY.

your lucky to have just 7hrs. of school, me? i have 23 units taken in this semester. I have to go to school 8:30 and 11:30 to have lunch, back at 12:30 to 6:30[(3:30 to 6:30 is my shop we repair all the lightings or put and repair electrical appliances that are broken in the whole campus)(i have vacants 2 or 3 in the morning or in the afternoon it depends on the sched.)

very tiring but still i've time in playing soldat

(Sorry if I am unintelligent, since the knowledge I have only comes from a school text book...)

Why would a teacher not use that as a response, i've seen/heard them say it, why would I lie about it?

And i get up at 6:00am every morning on a weekday to leave for school by 7:30 then get there by 8:20, it takes me that long to travel there, i start classes at that time and have 5 periods of class time with two 30 minute breaks between every two periods. What is your point?
Not to mention i work part time at a department store after school/weekends and the very large workload that i have for QCS and regular testing.  So what is your point, saying i don't haz it tough?

This is more so the idiocy of the teachers that i'm talking about, I would expect some of the answers i get back to questions i ask from a person who teaches fifth graders.
Incompetency isn't an excusable reason when you're teaching someone to supposedly do something the correct way.

You've got to be joking.
I'm stating from my own observations and you're calling me a liar, Screw you, you wouldn't know any better. That's like for instance, IF your friend walks in covered in gashes and says " I was just attacked by a bear..." and you say "ZOMG BEARS AREN'T REAL LOL, PROOFZORZ NUB!!!1!1" It just stupid, whu can't you just believe what i said, it's not even exaggerated. You're just being a tool.
And i doubt you are seventeen years of age.

Also, Get back on topic Oh the hypocrisy

No, you implied i was a liar by stating a teacher would never use that sentence eventhough i was saying i had observed a teacher saying those very words, IMPLICATION fool, Look it up.
And that was an example.

This is why Nazi-Communism is so great. You see, every citizen receives only the education they need in the future for their assignment, and no crap. Also, they can choose by themselves if and what additional education they want.

Long live Nazi-Communism!

I was actually thinking of you when I was posting this lol. I think our time could just be used way better than learning about the mostly useless stuff. I just think we need more choice.

A qualification is merely a piece of paper that tells people that you are simply someone who is willing to kiss arse and devote an unreasonable amount of effort to get ahead in life.

"A grade is an inadequate report of an inaccurate judgment by a biased and variable judge of the extent to which a student has attained an undefined level of mastery of an unknown proportion of an indefinite amount of material."

Depends on the class.  For things like math, science, and history, answers are either right or wrong.  Either you said that water boils at 100 C or you didn't.  Either you said that x is 5 in 2x = 10 or you didn't.  Either you said that Lincoln was the sixteenth President or you didn't.  If that quote is true, why do the smart people who work hard get good grades? Why do the people who slack off get lousy grades?

My guess is that you quoted some bitter person who didn't try hard enough and was looking for some way to justify his poor grades.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

When I was younger school was boring to me, but when I got to middle school I started making A's, and I've got Honor Roll several times too.  I guess what I'm trying to say is, you'll get use to the amount of work, even if its useless.  You should always have Misc. information in your mind.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the actual content of the quote. It isn't about how a grade is earned, it's about how utterly dumb the entire concept of a grade is.

People rarely contemplate on their careers in early high school so all the 'useless' and 'random' things you learn are really just giving you a broad perspective of all kinds of different skills, and who knows, you might like it or even be talented in it. So instead of tossing this opportunity away, learn to appreciate the innumerable pathways high school can offering you.

But then again you might just want to do an apprenticeship or something, but still, a little extra knowledge won't ever hurt =]

Like vij mentioned before, problem-solving skills are applicable in the real world and not to mention highly valued by employees. (learn to <3 maths)
