PolyWorks FREEZES

I tried installing PolyWorks on my Vista laptop and got the usual "dx8vb.dll was not found" etc. I got all those out of the way and had PolyWorks ready to go. But a small problem. PolyWorks runs unbarably slow, to the point of freezing for short periods. It happens every time I click somewhere, it takes about 2+ minutes to get it working again.
I used to run PolyWorks on my older computer which had half the ram and a smaller CPU, albeit that was running on XP.
Any help/ideas on how to make it run smoother? I've had a look around and haven't found anything.

Make sure you registred that dx8vb.dll file correctly. If you're sure you did, then I can only suggest to re-download the entire PolyWorks download from another source. You're the first to report a problem like this, so I'm not completely about this problem. Vista Users like E_A can probably help you better with this problem.

I don't think re downloading the polyworks file will help, but getting a new dx8vb.dll and making sure you regester it properly (C:\Windows\System32\Cmd.exe>regsvr32 dx8vb.dll) you will know if it registered properly because a window will say so.
Other than that, all I can say is that it
does
work on vista, just takes some time to get it working.

Thanks for the ideas, but nothings changed.
Tried getting a new(different) dx8vb.dll file, but that didn't help at all.
But yeh, I've seen other posts around here stating that Vista works with it, just looks like it doesn't for me. :/

Which version are you using? Just curious that different versions might different effect on performance. Is it Home Premium or Basic and if you know, is it the 32 or 64-Bit version?

Then the cause of this problem is quite strange. It should run fine. I don't really have anything else to suggest. I'll leave it to the Vista users.
But one last thing, I don't know if this will help, but there's no hurt in trying, try to see if there are updates for your drivers.

The only plausible solution that I can come up with is to restart your computer. Whenever my Winamp client would load real slowly, I'd restart my computer and it would return to normal. I bet you the same thing is happening with your copy of Polyworks.

Do other programs run really slow, or is it just polyworks?

Well, restarting doesn't seem to have helped, but...
'Error loading
Error acquiring input device
Permission denied'
Now pops-up every time I try to open Polyworks(then it freezes once I click 'OK').
As for other programs, only Soldat runs anywhere near as slow as this, and that's only when it's loading(maps, the intro demo, etc) otherwise it runs fine.

Goddamn, Vista is a pain in the ass.
For the error on start, I only seem to get that when I click my mouse or open a program when PolyWorks opens. If I double click it and don't touch anything until it fully loads, it opens fine.
