Matching IP's with the nicknames
« on: August 06, 2008, 04:14:06 pm »
Suggestion:
How about making script reading logs and automatically matching IP's (and range IP's) with the player's nicknames? There would be new .txt file with the list of IP's/Nicknames. It would be useful to hunt down the players changing their regular nicks to some random ones and doing shit on the server. I don't know how would it look like, but i think the idea is simple. Can be done? :)

It's a good idea and seems easy to code but I would actually read the OnJoin event (or whatever there is) and save nick/IPs from there instead of having to constantly be reading logs. This is what I currently do with an external ruby script which then stores data in a mysql database.

Like a year ago I started on an assiciations scripts, which matches all ips used on a specific nickname, and all nicks on 1 ip; possibly could have created a little group thingy; although i never got around to working on it...

I have it done in my server, but I won't share it with you cause I'm selfish! :)

Nah, it uses server script + php + mysql, too complicated to post something usefull here.
