An amazing feature would be the option to change grenade types from clusters to normal- sometimes you need to throw a grenade at an airborn target, without raining down explosives on yourself.  They are also a major pisser offer in freindly fire enabled team matches.

What I suggest is a button to switch grenade types in-game (tab anyone? I know its already used but surely having it next to switch weapons would be the most logical) so when you pick up cluster, you can change back to frags, and save clusters for when you need them.  Maybe a little [clusters] or [nades] icon on the user interface to show what you're currently using too.

Please vote in the poll  and add comments. 

edit: there are little pictures of the grenades you are using, but they look so similar I think they should be a little more distinguished

no need for this since you usually die before waste your 3 cluster, that never hit anyone, and if it does, they eat.

This could be a cool feature if other grenade types were added, like smoke grenades and flash grenades and ones that hurt when you go near them, not sure what they're called.

No. Cluster nades are cool, but they are pretty useless in most occasions. There shouldn't be more thant the two grenade types though, Soldat is a simple game, we don't need more and more realistic stuff/complex stuff.

Think about it though, currently everybody avoids clusters because they stop you from using normal nades, but if you could use both that wouldn't be a problem.  That way, you could pick them up and then only actually use them when you wanted to, say on CTF_COBRA to bombard around the enemy flag place then get the flag.

Although, clusters are in a serious need of an upgrade too, I think theres already a thread for that somewhere else.

Hell yea f12, but clusters need to be able to SMASH people in the face when you throw them not just when they go KABOOM

I have only found 1 use for the cluster, it boosts the flag pretty well.

I think it'll be best to buff the clusters. I mean, what's the point of a bonus that's worse than the standard it's supposed to replace?

Also, there was a thread about enabling vest and clusters in realistic (be careful and don't necro, it's one year old)

this isn't really about cluster grenades being boosted though, that belongs in the weapons balance forum.  I think it really is important to be able to switch

I agree with SDFilm - why should a bonus be so much weaker than the default grenades? True that bonuses have their disadvantages, but I find the cluster almost useless to me.



About the suggestion about switching the types of grenades, I'd say no. I'd rather use my normal grenades any day as I find them more useful than clusters.

1. Clusters don't explode on impact. Even if they actually do, it's hard to aim it for some reason.
2. You can't turn the cluster into a mini-mine with a timer which people step on and BOOM.
3. I find it much harder to use the clusters, since the shrapnels always tends to split and spread out. Depending on the poly and angle of throw, the shrapnels dispserse VERY differently. For ordinary nades, it's easier to estimate.
4. The grenade's damage is usually very consistent (always very high or an instant-kill) and it causes a big explosion when it detonates. However, clusters split into small little shrapnels, which explode into very small bursts which do only a little damage each. I'd rather go for something that is consistent and effective enough rather than something that has completely no guarantee.

Also, in Soldat, you die a lot. You'd lose the clusters really quickly. I don't find the clusters practical, and it's not like many servers enable bonuses, especially clusters. Switching between cluster and ordinary may be useful, but I don't think it's gonna work.

F12. Give the clusters some use. Otherwise, whats the point in it existing? Improve the clusters and/or add more grenade types, then a nade switch is an awesome feature.

I agree that they are a lot harder to use and they're completely useless for one on one combat, but I just think it would be useful to have them as a backup for the few occasions when you do want em e.g. group of enemies spamspamspam, or sometimes going into a battle you might throw one just to weaken the guy you want to pwn, and then when you fail terribley and miss all your shots, you've still got your nades.
