BlackSheepBoy's Extensive Pantry of Orphaned Maps
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:07:35 am »
I'll be reformatting my HDD sometime soon, so before I did that, I wanted to release the crap-ton of ideas I've had that I haven't finished.  Anyone is free to use/finish any of these maps (I won't finish any of 'em). They're all unfinished to some degree.

Currently, I have uploaded, the scenery and textures for every map in this menagerie in a zip and rar format. It really saves me the time of going through every map and packing each one individually. I'm sorry for the large download being an inconvenience to some.

If anyone desires to download the textures and scenery singularly for their own use, feel free. It is a combination of my own creations along with some of VTT's veg. pack, and other such usefulness. I call my scenery and textures upload: "The Basic Beginner's Pack of Goodies" (download is in rar format; zip format is at very bottom) as I believe it contains some basic essentials.

The top couple of maps in the list are the most finished/better looking out of the bunch, and the bottom categories are primarily for providing ideas to mappers.

*In each of the 'original threads,' there are the screenshots for each map (so that viewing-curiosities may be satiated).

THE PANTRY:

ctf Airport
Original Thread

The idea was to make an open, and rather flat map with crates, hangars, and planes to hide in/behind; sort of like the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer map that has a similar idea (planes and hangars etc).

My recommendation, for anyone, would be to find a better hangar background, and to have some sort of non-accessible airport thing to the right or left.

Stranded Isles
Original Thread

Another Idealistic map of mine. My original plan was to have several islands laid out, with some sort of connections between each, maybe for some sort of "spawn take-over" script so it'd be the "battle for territory" or whatever.

Whoever snags this map, if you are curious as to why there is a duplication of each of the island polygons under each island... I was trying to make some sort of reflection/shadow in the water. Didn't work as well as I thought.

Whoever downloads this gets to learn how I did the sky (the pride of this map). I'm sure some people could guess.

*Contains two variations. One with the sunset. The other in broad daylight.

ctf Kreidge
Original Thread

I have made several variations with this one. If you check out the 'original thread,' you'll see that it started out as another variation of ctf_Ash. I finally gave up, realizing that it wasn't going to turn out original, and good.

It has 90% functioning waypoints, so it's even somewhat enjoyable to dink around with. No scenery in this map, except for the bridge.

htf Volcan Caverness
Original Thread

I really like the feel of this map, as I had never done a map like this before, nor an htf map. The only thing I thought that was immediately wrong with it were the spawn placements, and waypoints. Also, the movement is a little clunky. Otherwise, I thought it was fine.

So, if someone were to fix up these darn spawn placements, and made whatever modifications they deemed worthy, I think this map would turn out swell. Do whatever you like to it, as it is now public domain.

ctf Greenlock Fields
Original Thread

All I thought about when I made this map were Soldatens frolicking in tall neon grass, sort of like those Fabreeze commercials they have.

I daresay, I don't know if this map is finished or not... but that is for anyone to decide. Much could be done to the map to make it more complete, and improved. It has testing waypoints and spawns.

inf Cloudwall
Original Thread

This was created to originally be a mission sort of map: "Start out with 2 allies, infiltrate the base disregarding the fact that you're up against 8 bravos, and win." Well, I guess I lied. In the last post for that thread, I told Demonic I would fix the thing up... aaannd I never did.

Has spawns. This was going to be another one of my bot-patrolling tests in the very beginning, but was transformed into this. The background is from a road-trip of mine, but change it if you so desire.

inf Stealthy Corridors
Original Thread

Some work has been done on it since. There is a whole new left section.

This was supposed to have another 'mission' format. Alpha starts on the cliff to the far left; they work there way through a Bravo camp in the middle of the mountain stretch; then Alpha propels down the side of the cliff on the right to infiltrate Bravo's base there.

So, if someone wants to follow that format when finishing this map, go right ahead. Otherwise, run free with it. This was made at the epitome of my bot-patrol-testing phase, and I never did finish the waypoint testing for it... This map has patrol-waypoints for Bravo, if wanted.

inf EscapeII_Z
Original Thread

Does the signature Z look familiar? This map was made for Arbiter's competition. If you check out the 'original thread,' you'll see more history on this map.

tw Extrusion
Original Thread

The middle builders originally were going to be redone and thrown into some grand scheme... but soon things turned into disarray, and time took over. On each side of the map, there were to be dense forests with colliding canopies that would slow down bullets.

There are spawns, and crappy waypoints, but all they are only located in the middle 3 buildings. That is as far as testing went for this map.. So, if anyone has some grand ideas, go ahead. From how I see it, it might take some extensive redoing/remaking to make it even worthy. Buut, you call the shots.

ctf Polygonal Molten Hell/Air
Original Thread

This was made out of the randomness of my, once, ever changing mood. I had two versions posted up in the original thread, the latter being the better one (unless you like orange-blue spiked insanity).

Testing waypoints for Bravo are existent. I suggest taking Keron Cyst's advice, if anyone takes up this gauntlet, since his opinions are generally that of quality and respectability. Otherwise, fulfill any vision you might have for this.

Mini Categories:

The Mini Ideas:

Some might be helpful in giving ideas for anyone lacking some, while others could actually turn into maps. They will be packed as a whole, in one download.

A Few Maps Included Are...
Tower Miscondal
Pacman
Jungle Patch

Download

WA maps:

The CTF one, I made for Worms Armageddon waay back, and decided to see how the layout would do for Soldat. These are just primarily for ideas, unless you want to elaborate/finish either one.

Topics:
wa Capture the Flag
wa Trench Warfare

Download

Now that was quite a mouth-full. I could have compiled this somehow into the Scrapyard but... yea. This is a bit on the large side.

Downloads are right below for "The Basic Beginner's Pack of Goodies" (all the textures and scenery from every map I've posted).

I thought kreige was a keeper, I'll try to make something with it to cheer you up ^^
Molten Hell makes me happy, I'll try to make it more friendly
Stranded Isles is very different, seems to be fun, but I don't think I can do anything :(

nice usage of attachments.  I opened this afraid that I would need to download and attach them all so they're not lost when some crummy host disappears or deletes them.  I wish more people used the attachment system this well.

I stole the idea from someone else, cause it seemed pretty efficient and handy

I'll treat some of your maps as if they were almost officially released. Believe me, some of them are.

I thought Kreidge was a keeper too. But after looking at it in Polyworks, (gameplay, no comment, it's good :)) most parts of the texture was fine, it's just that the "cracked" parts of the texture is a little too strong on the black and cartoonish compared to the rest of the map. What probably motivates a mapper the most is the texture. A bad texture is one where you don't feel it should match anything in your mind, and therefore give up on it. The cracked part is easy to fix, just lower the opacity on that one.

inf_escape, this is a Arbiter/Domino remake? It isn't very good in my opinion and probably just as hard as the original, albeit with a few easy rest spots.

ctf_greenlock, Ah, forest maps are pretty hard to make, as they require tons of sceneries, and after all that work, they may not turn out very well. Sceneries are spread out, yeah. But this map is inspirational, as it has a certain degree of atmosphere that makes you want to put this map to some good use except for the lagrange-like layout.

ctf_airport. You had a really good idea here, but you knew you didn't pull it off so well. I have a slight inkling of how to make it better, but the theme involves a cs/de layout style, and I haven't done those kind of things before.

I have no more to say here, you made a ton of maps, with some ideas and some unfinished work, and one map that deserve a official release (kreidge). Some of the maps on here gave me a bit of nostalgia back to my old days of mapping, whereas the polygon placement and shading are strikingly similar. :)

Huh, that's weird. I've never heard of that scenery in my life.

Well, thanks for pointing it out. Here it is:
