Computer crashes while running vista performance infomation test.

When I click the refresh button it starts the test but when it reaches the part when it says "Direct3D ALU test" my computer instantly crashes. I've tried running the test several times but when it comes to the Direct3D ALU test part my computer still crashes. I don't know weather its lack of ram or a malfunction, I just want to run the damn test. I'm on vista ultimate btw.

Solution: don't use Vista.  Use Windows XP for now, and wait for Windows 7.

Thats the problem. I reformatted my computer to vista because my classmate said that if i switched to vista, I could run crysis on dx10 mode thus, sexier graphics. If I had my XP cd I would of switched back ages ago. Now I can't run soldat and that stupid "unidentified program wants to access your computer" nag box appears every time I click on an exe.

check your video drivers, make sure they are the latest available.  the fact that it crashes when it tries to run a directx test makes that seem quite suspect.

Yes their all up to date. I'm using the latest version.

nope, still crashes. Apparently I searched the web and some people have the same problems as I do.

I would suggest going to a tech support forum or something, like Tom's Hardware's troubleshooting section or something

What video card do you have?

Its a 9600gt with an aftermarket cooler.
