nope.

okay, so I put them in the same category because the vocals themselves sound so raw that the words are distorted to the point that I can't make them out easily, even if I do know the lyrics.

Is the difference purely in the lyrical content?  what makes them two different genres?

Laiho applies death growls, dissorting his voice whilst screaming more often. The vocal parts also follow the flow of the other instruments, and it's comperably smoother.

The other bands I mentioned have no dominant vocal technique: they do high pitched screams, death growls, occasionaly dissorted 'rants' and sometimes piqsqueeling (inhaling the air instead of exhaling). The vocals rarely if ever follow the rest of the song, and it's chaotic and much less user-friendly.

The term screamo describes a whole lot more than the technique anyway, and Bodom's lyrics are in no way 'emo'. It's melodic death metal, and poof.

(for the sake of reality, there could be other old screamo bands named which would make your hair stand on in, but I just can't be bothered. Wiki.)

IMO death matal has little or no meaningful lyrical content. The whole point of that music is to get you all pumped up.
Sorta like mainstream rap, but in a darker and not as cool(by popular definitions) kind of away.

I'm a big fan of anything. Up untill recently, I hated hiphop. I hated the fact that you weren't popular if you didn't listen to it. But now... its all about the words.
I'm a bit of a poet, so love songs and songs about life are my kind of buzz. Linkin Park, Akon, Katy Perry, Blondie (I'm not kidding), those-guys-who-sung-the-time-warp, Alabama, Fort Minor (Which is just Linkin Park with more emphisis on rap and hiphop beats and doesn't include Mr. Scream Chester Bennington)...
Thats just a select few that I find really good at the moment.
Oh... and Craig David has that new song called "Insomnia" which is catchy.

music is just a medium used to feel certain emotions

if a song or a band can do that, then its done its job

a pop song might make you feel happy

a blues song might make you feel sad

a rock song might make you feel angry

etc

also, predictable or regulated beats please the brain, and that is why its easy to dance to a song you like

ignoring genres or statements or whatever. music should be judged by its ability to comply with the above statements

then only after that should you pick your preferences

just thought this needed saying

People pick what they like, and music with similar properties are classified under the same genre. When you pick what you like you also sorta pick the genre.

If you pick music according to genre instead of what you really like thats just stupid.

I listen to, among other things, classic rock, blues, jazz, soul, power pop, tango, and salsa. Pretty close to everything mainstream played in either the States or Cuba between the First World War and the 80s, plus some modern things like electrotango. I also enjoy classical music and Catholic chant. The only music I don't like is anything with obscene lyrics.

I listen to music like Metallica, System of a Down, Amatory, Trivium, KoRn, Mudvayne, etc... I really do not need a reason why. It is just the type of music I like.
