When you go off a ramp mash random buttons it works.

Oh.

Try not to hurt yourself and keep it slow is all the advice I can give. The phrase "I can totally do that jump" or "I can totally grind that rail" has resulted in many, many injuries.

Keep your wheels oiled. Carry a torque wrench everywhere.

Wear a helmet if you're not sure you can land.

Back when I went skating every day, I would always carry a little toolbox in my backpack to school, just in case I was heading out right afterwards. Extra sets of.. ball bearings(they caled that, metallic rotating thingies within the wheels?), wrenches, extra truckrubber, you name it.

You know, skating is all about taking chances, but also knowing when to stop. Don't push yourself wildly beyond your capabilities, or you could really get hurt. But don't be afraid to rise to the challenge. I promise you, nothing feels better than your first time you clear a big gap, or 50 a set of stairs.

@PANZERCATWAGON: I know I'm late... I also started playing guitar at 17, which is pretty late. I don't care if I'll never beat rodney mullen though. I don't care if I ever come kind of close to that. I wanna have fun and I think I can do it this way.

@bja88: yeah... I agree, no broken bone pics XD. Anyway, my board cost 100 euros, and I bought it at a skate shop. It has a minilogo deck, industrial trucks, and I can't find out what the make of the bearings and wheels are, but the thing rolls smoothly. It's a quality board.

Thanks for the tip about the wrench. I'll do that.

Rodney Mullen? Keep it up as long as him, and you're bound to know a trick or two ;)

He speaks the truth. First time at the skatepark on my bmx, I throttled it off the launch ramp. I dont know how long it took to fall to the ground, or if the resulting head trauma blanked it out or what...The rear peg of my bike landed square between my eyes , left a nasty (but afterwards utterly hilarious) 1 1/2 inch purple circle.

Atleast when you start at 20 your not as stupid :D

I carry a mini crescent wrench, small pliers, and an allen key or two under my bike seat.

I believe it's a testosterone thing, where you've gotta beat the s$%t outta the other side in front of the cheerleaders.

Nah, it's a good sport, you just need to make sure you're the one trampling, and not the one being trampled.

What Revelations 6:8 SHOULD say: "And behold a pale horse, and his name who sat on him was Death... and all of the United States Marine Corps followed with him."

get friends who skateboard and learn from them, best way there is, you can't learn s**t by just reading, you just need to DO IT.

also what deck did you get?

Rodney Mullen? Keep it up as long as him, and you're bound to know a trick or two ;)
Rodney is a piece of shit, always doing the same boring crap
ed templeton and mike V were skating before him and still are.

@TBDM:

Minilogo superlight deck, K-12, 7.625"x31.625"
Industrial trucks (it doesn't say any more than that)
ABEC-1 Ball Bearings (1 is sturdy, 9 is smooth, right? Im not sure)

And how can you call the inventor of the kickflip, the heelflip, and handstand flips a piece of s**t? I agree it can be boring to allways watch him do the same things, but I saw his "best of" video yesterday and I can't help but say: he's a really good skater

get abec 7s if you want to roll good and long during bearings. i would suggest RED BONES
and Venture trucks

ye, he invented some things, but i hate the way he skates, no style, always the same stuff, no rails, no stairs, it's just broing stuff that you can't get hyped on.
go watch some Leo Romero, Ed Templeton, Nick Trapasso (all toy machine movies) and compare it to Mullen, they get you hyped on skateboarding, Mullen does not..

also if you want to learn things, just try stuff out, have fun with friends, skateboarding isn't about being good, it's about having fun.
